Alpine Triumphs at Goodwood: A110 Pikes Peak Racer Secures Top Spot in Timed Shootout

Alpine concluded the Goodwood Festival of Speed triumphantly, with its A110 Pikes Peak racer surging up the iconic 1.16-mile hillclimb to secure 4th place in the fiercely competitive Timed Shootout.

Raphaël Astier, who steered the car to third place at Pikes Peak in 2023, propelled the aerodynamically optimised A110 Pikes Peak up Goodwood's hill in just 48.61 seconds.

This achievement followed the A110's performance in challenging Saturday qualifying conditions, where its lightweight build of 950 kg and powerful engine, nearly hitting 500 bhp, outperformed many stronger competitors. It qualified 6th for the Timed Shootout with an even faster time of 48.1 seconds. Out of 45 participants, the fastest 30 advanced to compete on Super Sunday in the Timed Shootout – the Goodwood Festival of Speed's climactic event.

Astier pushed the A110 Pikes Peak to its limits throughout the four-day event, culminating in a spectacular finish highlighting an exceptional festival for Alpine.

While the A110 Pikes Peak led Alpine’s charge up the hill, it also shared the spotlight with the UK dynamic debut of the A290 – Alpine's fully electric urban sports car. Just unveiled at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the eye-catching 220 bhp 'hot hatch' demonstrated its sporty prowess in the 'First Glance' feature.

Visitors to Alpine's stand also had the chance to explore the breathtaking Alpenglow concept, which merges a lightweight carbon body with a futuristic vision for high-performance hydrogen-powered vehicles. Alongside the A290 in the 'First Glance' feature were the 1975 A110 Group 4 Tour de Corse rally car and the limited edition A110 R Le Mans.

The motorsport theme extended with displays of the BWT Alpine F1 Team show car, the 1970s twin-turbocharged V6 RS10 F1 car, and the revolutionary V6-powered A442B endurance racer.

Various A110 variants, including the A110 S, A110 GT, A110 R, and A110 Enstone, participated in the manufacturer parade, showcasing their roadgoing prowess. Alpine also teased how it plans to enhance the acclaimed A110 further, revealing the upcoming Atelier Alpine personalisation programme.

Nic Burnside, MD of Alpine Cars UK, expressed his excitement: "Witnessing the A110 Pikes Peak's dynamic sprint to a strong finish was the perfect climax to an exhilarating four days for Alpine. During the Festival of Speed, we provided thousands of visitors a profound glimpse into our heritage, current innovations, and future ambitions, winning over longstanding fans and captivating a new generation of performance enthusiasts with the 100% electric A290."
