Genesis X Gran Equator Concept: Where Unrivalled Elegance Meets Adventurous Spirit
Genesis has unveiled the X Gran Equator Concept, a daring embodiment of grace and adventure designed for those who crave the tranquillity of nature and the excitement of the unexplored. Its name takes inspiration from the Equator, acclaimed as the “finest stallion” in the Arabian horse world – a symbol of resilience, agility, and sophisticated strength. These attributes align perfectly with the spirit of the concept: a vehicle engineered for extreme conditions yet exuding an effortless sense of refinement. Just as the Arabian horse seamlessly balances beauty and power, this concept demonstrates Genesis’s distinctive approach to performance.
Marking the brand’s first adventure concept, X Gran Equator reinterprets Genesis’ ‘Athletic Elegance’ design philosophy while fully embracing the rugged appeal of overlanding.
“The X Gran Equator Concept is our way of uniting contrasts – it pairs elegance with toughness, and the drive to explore with refined comfort,” said Luc Donckerwolke, Chief Creative Officer of Genesis. “It orchestrates genuine off-road capability and impeccable luxury, empowering explorers to discover the most awe-inspiring landscapes around the globe.”
Following the principles of reductive design, the X Gran Equator Concept’s exterior features clean lines and uncluttered surfaces. A lengthened bonnet, streamlined cabin, and flowing C-pillar create a sleek, coupé-like silhouette that challenges traditional SUV design. Meanwhile, its extended wheel arches and 24-inch beadlock wheels underscore its readiness for off-road endeavours. The geometric auxiliary lights and a split-opening tailgate blend practical function with Genesis’ trademark Two-Line headlights, ensuring the X Gran Equator stands out as purposeful and visually striking.
Inside, the X Gran Equator Concept balances analogue sensibilities and cutting-edge technology to form a simultaneously functional and emotional environment. At the heart of the cabin, a four-circle display cluster on the centre stack, inspired by vintage camera dials, draws attention. Contrasting colours and geometric forms define the interior, creating a lively yet minimalist ambience. The streamlined dashboard directs the driver’s focus towards the road ahead, while swivel-capable front seats and modular storage solutions maximise convenience.
By introducing the X Gran Equator Concept, Genesis signals its continued evolution towards lifestyle-focused cars that combine sophistication with adaptability. Although not officially slated for production, its design cues and inventive features—such as integrated roof rails and split-opening tailgates—offer a glimpse into the brand’s future direction.
Visitors can witness the X Gran Equator Concept firsthand at the Genesis stand during the 2025 New York International Auto Show, which will be open to the public from 18 April at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. After the show, it will remain displayed at Genesis House in the Meatpacking District until the end of July.
