Honda Unveils New Hybrid Electric Prelude with S+ Shift Technology in Europe for 2026
Honda has revealed that the hybrid electric Prelude, complete with the groundbreaking Honda S+ Shift technology, will make its European debut in early 2026. This technology aims to amplify the driving pleasure of the brand's latest sports coupe by simulating the sound and feel of rapid automatic gear changes.
The S+ Shift technology enhances the driving experience by delivering a perfect balance of exhilaration to a new generation of Prelude drivers. Since its introduction 46 years ago, the Prelude has been a showcase of Honda's advanced technology across five generations, culminating in 2000. The latest model picks up where it left off, combining stylish sophistication with an efficient hybrid powertrain.
Hans de Jaeger, Senior Vice President at Honda Motor Europe, expressed enthusiasm about the reintroduction of the Prelude: "The Honda Prelude is an iconic nameplate, and the latest model is set to continue this legacy with our hallmark hybrid performance and cutting-edge dynamic technology. This model not only promises exceptional efficiency but also delivers the fun-to-drive performance that has become synonymous with the Prelude. We eagerly anticipate its European launch following its highly favourable reception."
This announcement aligns with Honda's celebration of 25 years of hybrid innovation, which began with the introduction of the revolutionary Insight coupe in 1999 as Europe's first mass-produced hybrid model. Since then, Honda has led the development of petrol-electric powertrain technology, offering a range of models that enable drivers to transition smoothly and cost-effectively to an electrified future.
