Kevin Magnussen Joins BMW M Motorsport as Works Driver for 2025
BMW M Motorsport is delighted to announce a new addition from Formula 1 to its LMDh programme for the 2025 season. Kevin Magnussen, from Denmark, will join as a BMW M works driver, competing in upcoming races with the BMW M Hybrid V8 from next year. The 32-year-old has an impressive track record, with 185 Formula 1 races from 2014 to 2024. More details on his future racing engagements will follow.
In 2013, Magnussen clinched the Formula Renault 3.5 title and made a striking Formula 1 debut in 2014, securing a podium finish in his first season. He achieved his highest championship position in 2018, finishing ninth in the driver standings. His experience extends to sports car prototypes, completing an entire IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season in 2021. He notched one victory and five podium finishes in the elite DPi category and competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in an LMP2 car.
BMW M Motorsport competes with the BMW M Hybrid V8 in the IMSA series and the FIA World Endurance Championship, including the iconic 24 Hours of Le Mans. The complete line-up of drivers for both series will be revealed later.
Andreas Roos, Head of BMW M Motorsport, expressed his enthusiasm about Magnussen's addition: "Kevin Magnussen is an exceptional new member of our LMDh programme. His consistent performance in Formula 1 over the last decade and extensive experience make him a significant asset. His previous full season with a sports car prototype in 2021 will also aid his adaptation to the BMW M Hybrid V8. We are thrilled to welcome him to the BMW M Motorsport family."
Kevin Magnussen shared his excitement about his new role: "I am thrilled and honoured to represent such a legendary brand as BMW in some of the world's most celebrated races. After a decade in Formula 1, I am eager to begin this new and exhilarating chapter. I look forward to facing the challenges posed by some of the most innovative and advanced sports cars in the history of endurance racing. I am immensely grateful to BMW M Motorsport for this incredible opportunity and am excited to start preparations and launch the 2025 season with the team."
