Lola Cars and ABT Join Forces in Formula E Alliance: Driving Innovation in Electric Racing

Lola Cars (Lola) announced an exciting new partnership with ABT, joining forces to compete in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. Together, these esteemed brands will utilise a powertrain co-developed by Lola and technical partner Yamaha Motor.

The decision to enter Formula E with ABT marks just one facet of a comprehensive joint venture exploring various sustainable motorsport aspects. This initiative aligns with Lola's strategic vision to reclaim its position as an industry frontrunner, with a sharp focus on electrification, hydrogen, and sustainable fuels and materials.

"We're thrilled to team up with ABT and bring our cutting-edge technology, developed alongside Yamaha Motor, to the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. Collaborating with a team boasting such a rich history and success in the sport is invigorating. ABT's expertise in Formula E, particularly in factory-backed programs, will give us a significant advantage. We eagerly anticipate nurturing our partnership within and beyond the electric racing series," remarked Till Bechtolsheimer, Chairman of Lola Cars Ltd.

ABT recently celebrated its 100th race at the 2024 season opener in Mexico, boasting an impressive track record with 47 podium finishes and over 1,400 points, firmly establishing itself as one of the most successful teams on the grid.

Thomas Biermaier, CEO and Team Principal of ABT expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "We're delighted to have secured two renowned partners for our Formula E journey. Undoubtedly, entering and establishing a new manufacturing presence in a world championship poses significant challenges. However, throughout our discussions and negotiations, we've witnessed first-hand Lola and Yamaha's exceptional skill, motivation, and determination to ensure the success of this project—qualities shared by every team member."

Heiji Maruyama, Managing Executive Officer and Director of Yamaha Motor added, "Yamaha Motor is intensifying its research and development efforts across various technologies contributing to sustainability. As Lola's Technical Partner, we aspire to enhance our energy management technologies through the pinnacle of electric racing in Formula E. We're honoured to contribute our technology to the success of a remarkable team like ABT in collaboration with Lola."

Development of the powertrain and associated software is well underway, with the inaugural shakedown scheduled for June. We are excited about the progress and eagerly anticipate the forthcoming months when we will disclose further details regarding team structure and setup.

This collaboration underscores Lola's ongoing commitment to partnering with stakeholders to pioneer innovative technologies across global motorsport and the broader realm of zero-emission transportation.
