McMurtry Shatters Records: Spéirling PURE Sets Unprecedented Lap Time at Castle Combe

On 29th April, the McMurtry Spéirling PURE (Validation Prototype 1) fan car, piloted by development driver Max Chilton, clocked the fastest lap ever at the 1.85-mile Castle Combe Circuit during routine testing.

Max Chilton, who also holds the record at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, completed the lap in just 54.559 seconds. This performance was four seconds faster than the previous record set by an F3 single-seater and nearly ten seconds quicker than the GT3 lap record—a significant margin on such a short course.

Castle Combe, McMurtry’s local circuit, holds special significance as the place where Max Chilton passed his racing license test in the early 2000s.

Max stated, "Everyone seeks bragging rights at their local circuit. We've shattered the track record by four seconds, even at 80% power and a 155mph speed limit. This proves our car's potential for customers to achieve similar feats at their local or favourite circuits."

The McMurtry Spéirling PURE, a hyper-track car now available globally, incorporates a unique downforce-on-demand system that delivers exceptional grip and downforce from 0mph. This technology works with a 1000bhp electric powertrain, which offers performance modes ranging from GT3 to F1-level speeds.

Managing Director of McMurtry Automotive, Thomas Yates, expressed his excitement: "Achieving this milestone was thrilling. Having tested here for years, it was high time we demonstrated the car’s capabilities around our local track."

McMurtry is now set to compete at Laguna Seca in the USA, tackling the reverse corkscrew hillclimb with the original Goodwood record-holding Spéirling and driver Max Chilton on August 10th and 11th.
