Nissan Celebrates NISMO’s 40-Year Legacy of Racetrack Excellence and Road Performance
Today, Nissan commemorates the 40th anniversary of its iconic performance division, NISMO (Nissan Motorsport International Co. Limited), established on 17th September 1984. NISMO has become the epitome of Nissan's commitment to racing and high-performance vehicles, catering to racetrack enthusiasts and road car drivers.
Initially based in Omori, Tokyo, NISMO has spearheaded the development of Nissan's most thrilling vehicles and motorsport ventures. The division's "Track to Road" philosophy underscores its mission to translate extreme racetrack performance into exhilarating road car experiences, leveraging race-bred innovations.
In honour of this landmark anniversary, the Nissan Global Headquarters Gallery in Yokohama showcases an impressive collection of NISMO vehicles. This includes the ultra-rare NISMO 270R and the esteemed NISMO 400R, alongside legendary track vehicles like the Nissan R390 GT1, which clinched 3rd place at the 1998 24 Hours of Le Mans. Other notable displays include the Daytona-winning Nissan R91CP and the Japan Touring Car Championship-winning Calsonic Skyline GT-R Group A.
Moreover, the exhibition features the latest additions to the NISMO lineup, including the newly unveiled Ariya NISMO, AURA NISMO, and FAIRLADY Z NISMO, which will be available until 15 October 2024.
Takao Katagiri, head of Nissan's global motorsports and president of NMC, expressed gratitude towards NISMO's supporters and shared the company's vision for future innovations driven by the "Track to Road" ethos through their Super GT and Formula E factory racing programs.
Looking forward, Katagiri emphasised the continuous drive to infuse racetrack lessons into commercial models, aiming to enhance global offerings of exciting NISMO vehicles.
The festivities extend to the 2024 NISMO Festival on 1st December at Fuji International Speedway, Shizuoka Prefecture, celebrating NISMO’s storied 40-year legacy, racing achievements, and the evolution of its high-performance road cars.
