Nissan, Honda, and Mitsubishi Motors Explore New Business Integration Opportunities

Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., Honda Motor Co., Ltd., and Mitsubishi Motors Corporation have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to assess Mitsubishi Motors’ potential role and synergy contributions in a joint holding company's business integration, initially agreed upon by Nissan and Honda.

On 1 August, Nissan and Honda established an MOU that established a strategic partnership framework concentrating on intelligence and electrification. The trio, now including Mitsubishi Motors, is progressing discussions within this structure.

In response to profound industry shifts, Nissan and Honda initially agreed to consider business integration through a new joint holding company. They are exploring the enhanced benefits that Mitsubishi Motors might contribute to this integration. Mitsubishi Motors intends to finalise its decision on participation by the end of January 2025.

Nissan’s CEO, Makoto Uchida, highlighted the significance of these discussions: “The potential integration between Nissan and Honda, now involving Mitsubishi Motors, promises substantial synergies across various areas, potentially delivering superior value to an expanded customer base.”

Honda’s Executive Officer, Toshihiro Mibe, commented on the historic nature of the shift: "As the automotive industry undergoes a transformation seen once every century, we hope that Mitsubishi Motors' involvement in our integration discussions with Nissan will foster further societal change. Through this collaboration, we aim to lead in creating innovative mobility solutions.”

Mitsubishi Motors’ CEO, Takao Kato, added: “The discussions on business integration with Nissan and Honda are poised to maximise synergy and leverage our collective strengths. We are committed to identifying the optimal collaboration format to benefit all partners involved.”
