Rockfort Engineering Teams Up with Ariel Motor to Unveil Groundbreaking Ariel E-Nomad

Rockfort Engineering, renowned for its expertise in Advanced EV Powertrain Development and Technology, has proudly announced its partnership with Ariel Motor Company to create the new Ariel E-Nomad.

This project, funded by a Niche Vehicle Network (NVN) grant, unveils the production-ready all-electric off-roader equipped with the essential control, safety, and engineering integrity for low-volume series production.

Expanding on the work from a previous NVN-backed Proof-of-Concept for the E-Nomad, Rockfort has engineered, produced, and refined a bespoke 450V, 41kWh Lithium-Ion battery system.

The battery includes high-voltage power electronics, safety features, and powertrain control systems, forming a self-contained unit for easy installation and direct integration with the standard Nomad's electrical and chassis stability systems.

The E-Nomad battery system can generate up to 210kW and supports AC (Type 2) Domestic Charging and DC (CCS2) Fast Charging, the latter enabling a charge from 20% to 80% in less than 25 minutes.

Weighing under 300kg as a fully integrated unit, the battery boasts an advanced thermal conditioning system that optimises performance and range, thereby enhancing the battery pack's lifespan. Despite its high energy and power density, the battery pack is built to maintain the rugged, all-terrain capability synonymous with the E-Nomad name.

Additionally, the E-Nomad battery introduces Rockfort’s latest 3.4kWh Pegasus V3 Lithium-Ion Battery Modules, housed within a lightweight enclosure. These modules lead the industry in energy density, enhancing range and performance while maintaining a lightweight, offering a versatile solution for the rapid design of EV propulsion battery packs.

Rockfort's cutting-edge battery management electronics merge comprehensive powertrain and vehicle dynamics control with integrated safety management, providing multiple modes with adjustable performance and drivability characteristics.

With the Pegasus V3 architecture, Rockfort offers cost-effective, ready-to-produce, modular, and customisable powertrain solutions that are highly refined and swiftly brought to market.

The launch of this technology on the Ariel E-Nomad marks a significant milestone. It heralds a new era of growth and ambitious goals for Rockfort, with forthcoming announcements on new investments and brand partnerships.

Rockfort Director Angus Lyon expressed, “The debut of the Ariel E-Nomad represents the culmination of extensive efforts by our team to advance our EV technologies. This outstanding vehicle will make its first public appearance at the CENEX LCV show at Millbrook this week, showcasing both the E-Nomad and Rockfort’s innovative technologies. This is a thrilling time for Rockfort, demonstrating our dedication to pioneering future EV solutions.”

Ariel Director Simon Saunders commented, “While the E-Nomad remains a concept, it displays our production intentions for the vehicle and previews a part of Ariel’s future. Following our rigorous testing regimen, we might consider launching the E-Nomad alongside the ICE-powered Nomad 2, depending on customer reactions to the concept car.”
