This Bespoke creation brings a personal vision to life with extraordinary artistry and unparalleled craftsmanship.
As Sakura season unfolds, cloaking landscapes across the globe in delicate pink petals, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars proudly unveils Phantom Cherry Blossom, a one-off Phantom Extended conceived to honour a Japanese client’s treasured memories of Hanami—the centuries-old tradition of cherry blossom viewing.
In Japanese culture, cherry blossoms signify the changing rhythms of nature, the ephemeral joy of spring, and the importance of living in the moment. The Phantom Cherry Blossom captures this profound symbolism through a masterful fusion of ancient Japanese embroidery and modern design.
The journey began three years ago when the commissioning client invited Rolls-Royce artisans to Japan to share their deeply personal vision. They desired to create not merely a motor car but a lasting legacy—a moving tribute to their formative Hanami experiences, now to be passed down through generations.
The result is a breathtaking, highly personal Phantom, meticulously handcrafted by the Bespoke Collective at the Home of Rolls-Royce in Goodwood. Delivered to its proud custodian in Japan, this singular commission is a testament to individual expression, cultural reverence, and the limitless possibilities of Bespoke design.
Step inside Phantom Cherry Blossom, and you are instantly immersed in the poetic essence of Hanami. The interior features over 250,000 stitches, forming an intricate embroidered scene that evokes the sensation of sitting beneath blooming cherry trees.
The Bespoke Starlight Headliner showcases an embroidered cherry bough in full bloom while the falling petals continue across the rear door panels and the Privacy Suite partition. Executed over more than six months, the embroidery alone required three weeks, incorporating the ancient tatami stitch technique to achieve rich, textural depth.
In an extraordinary Rolls-Royce first, the interior is further enhanced by three-dimensional embroidery, where individual cherry petals are hand-sculpted and precisely positioned to complement ambient lighting and cast subtle, naturalistic shadows—adding sculptural elegance to the rear compartment.
Creating a sense of movement and life within the embroidery required intense precision. A single artisan meticulously aligned eleven embroidered frame sections to form a unified graphic that flows seamlessly from the rear of the cabin to the front, symbolising the passage of time and the continuity of memory.
The satin-stitch blossoms catch light from different angles, producing a gem-like shimmer that adds to the interior's ethereal beauty. These soft, falling petals appear throughout the rear cabin, even on the division wall of the Privacy Suite—each petal placed with artistic intent.
While the interior dazzles with handcrafted artistry, the exterior remains understated and elegant. The Crystal over Arctic White paintwork features a hand-painted coachline that subtly incorporates a cherry blossom motif, offering a refined preview of the artistry.
Even the Bespoke umbrellas, stowed within the doors, continue the theme with a delicate falling petal design hidden within their lining. This thoughtful and unexpected detail reflects the spirit of Sakura.
