Rolls-Royce Unveils Exclusive Phantom Goldfinger Edition to Honour 60th Anniversary of Iconic Bond Film

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has proudly introduced the unique Phantom Extended, a tribute to the 1964 James Bond film Goldfinger, marking its 60th anniversary. Inspired by the 1937 Phantom III Sedanca de Ville, driven by the film’s villain, Auric Goldfinger, this one-off model is a deep dive into the narrative and iconography of the classic film through its innovative bespoke features.

The Phantom Goldfinger showcases some of the most intricate bespoke features ever engineered for a Rolls-Royce, all inspired by the film. Integrating these playful yet elegant elements, from a sculptural Gallery inspired by the famous Furka Pass scene to a gold golf putter mounted in the car’s boot, reminiscent of Goldfinger’s golf club used in his first encounter with James Bond, required three years of continuous development.

Rolls-Royce specialists have matched the yellow hue of the original 1937 Phantom III Sedanca de Ville for its exterior. This is complemented by a unique two-tone design and 21-inch disc wheels with black and silver 'floating' hubcaps, echoing the 1937 model’s aesthetic.

The iconic Spirit of Ecstasy, adorning the front of the Phantom Goldfinger, subtly hints at the film's narrative, where gold is smuggled in the Phantom’s body panels. It appears silver but reveals gold underneath, achieved by gold-plating a solid silver figure with 18-carat gold.

Inside, the Bespoke Collective at Rolls-Royce has embedded 18- and 24-carat gold in several highly complex features, such as an illuminated solid gold bar in the centre console and gold-plated accents throughout the vehicle. The interior quotes Goldfinger’s iconic line and showcases a 24-carat gold-plated VIN plaque ending in 007, adding to its exclusivity.

The Phantom's Gallery features bespoke artwork: a hand-drawn three-dimensional isoline map of the Furka Pass, where Bond discreetly follows Goldfinger in the film. This centrepiece required a year and ten prototypes to perfect and incorporates a unique 'gun barrel'- inspired clock surround.

The car’s Starlight Headliner represents the constellations over the Furka Pass as they appeared during the filming, with 719 stars and eight 'shooting stars' in gold hues meticulously placed by hand.

The Royal Walnut picnic tables feature a 22-carat gold inlay depicting a fictional map of Fort Knox, a scene of the film’s climax. The intricate design took six months and three prototypes to finalise.

Finished in Navy leather and Royal Walnut veneer, the interior is enhanced with gold stitching and monograms, perfectly framing the gold detailing that references the original car's interior. A gold-plated putter, inspired by the one used by Goldfinger at Stoke Park, is also mounted inside the boot, completing this tribute to a memorable scene.

Nick Rhodes, Bespoke Designer at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, shared, “Creating the Phantom Goldfinger was a major creative journey. The features referencing the film’s iconic scenes showcase the potential of bespoke craftsmanship in adding new layers to a classic story. It was an honour to lead this project.”

Chris Brownridge, Chief Executive, added, “This project pushed our creative team to explore the depths of their imagination, culminating in a creation that epitomises the essence of bespoke luxury.”

Boris Weletzky, Regional Director, noted, “The Phantom Goldfinger project was a remarkable opportunity to celebrate 60 years of the film. The extended creativity and curated experiences for the client underscore our commitment to engaging our clients and creating lasting impressions, truly defining us as a house of luxury.”
