Unveiling the Alpine Alpenglow Hy6: A Revolution in Hydrogen-Powered Motorsport Innovation

Introduced in 2022, the Alpenglow concept car represents Alpine's future design and sustainable innovation direction. The vehicle demonstrates the potential of the hydrogen combustion engine as a viable solution for sports models aiming to meet strict carbon reduction targets. Alpine is thus well-prepared for potential changes in future regulations. The name "Alpenglow" aptly describes an optical phenomenon that casts a glowing light over mountains before sunrise, symbolising the dawn of a new era.

Following its initial prototype, equipped with a 340 bhp, turbocharged 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine, Alpine introduced the Alpenglow Hy6. This model features a revolutionary 3.5-litre V6 engine developed entirely by Alpine, doubling the power to an impressive 740 bhp, ensuring top-tier performance aligned with its stunning design.

Bruno Famin, VP of Alpine Motorsports, stated, "Our new Hy6 V6 engine underscores our commitment to hydrogen technology, poised to transform motorsport with its high performance and sustainability. It offers a thrilling sound at a maximum of 9,000 rpm, showcasing our dedication to enhancing the motorsport experience."

Antony Villain, VP of Alpine Design, commented, "The road-going version of the Alpine Alpenglow concept car was unveiled earlier this year with significant enhancements from its new Hy6 powertrain. This adaptation, particularly in the redesigned rear section, emphasises the technical challenges and aerodynamic improvements necessary for higher performance."

Since its debut two years ago, the Alpenglow concept car has evolved significantly through collaborative efforts between designers and engineers, blending aerodynamic functionality with cutting-edge design. The Hy6 version sports numerous technical and aesthetic enhancements, including a more aggressive rear wing and a distinctive rear window design, integrating transparent NACA air ducts that contribute to the car's lightweight impression.

The new Hy6 engine, substantially more powerful than the previous Hy4 engine, requires advanced aerodynamic support, clearly evident in the redesigned rear wing. This wing, crafted from a transparent material, now features raised, racing-style side blades supported by aluminium struts, enhancing appearance and functionality. The wheels maintain their gradient design, perfectly complementing the custom Michelin tyres.

The cockpit's design continues to blend form with function, featuring a triangular element that changes colour to display real-time data such as lateral Gs, engine speed, and speed information. The dashboard incorporates high-tech materials like carbon fibre and Alcantara, with a magenta starter button and a racing steering wheel reflecting Alpine's motorsport heritage.

Finally, the Alpine Alpenglow Hy6, based on an LMP3 carbon chassis, integrates a newly developed Hy6 V6 engine designed specifically for hydrogen use, setting new standards in engine performance and sustainability for racing and potential future road applications.
