AC Cars Unveils New Engine Options for 2026 AC Cobra GT Models
AC Cars has unveiled the latest development in the AC Cobra GT Roadster and GT Coupe series, introducing an exhilarating new engine option to the esteemed sports car lineup.
Set to debut next year, the high-performance 2.0-litre engine will join the existing naturally aspirated and supercharged V8 models, enhancing both the open-top and hardtop versions from 2026. Despite these advancements, the new models will maintain the distinctive aluminium chassis, carbon fibre bodywork, and unique interiors synonymous with Britain’s oldest active car manufacturer.
The new engines are designed to uphold the brand’s legacy of performance-focused powertrains. In collaboration with a leading global provider of hybrid and internal combustion engine solutions, AC Cars aims to tailor the engine to meet the dynamic demands of its GT platform.
These engines will be available in two tuning states, tailored to the specific model. The new cars, lighter than their V8 counterparts, will benefit from additional carbon fibre enhancements, making significant weight reductions possible. Detailed specifications and production power outputs of up to 390bhp will be revealed in spring 2025.
AC Cars also announced a new dual-clutch gearbox to complement the engines’ capabilities. This gearbox will be alongside a traditional six-speed manual gearbox.
David Conza, CEO of AC Cars, expressed at the announcement, “This is a pivotal moment in our growth strategy, allowing us to remain true to our defining principles. Offering a broader selection of performance engines will widen the appeal of our exclusive sports cars and cater to markets with stricter emissions and taxation policies on larger engines.”
The final pricing and specifications for the new AC Cobra GT Roadster and GT Coupe models will soon be confirmed. Expected starting prices, including VAT, are around £ 235,000.
