Exclusive Drivable Audi Sport LMP & DTM Prototypes: Own a Piece of Racing History

Audi Sport is breaking ground by offering drivable LMP and DTM prototypes from its former factory racing programmes for sale as exclusive collector items. The newly formed Audi Sport Racing Legends project team expertly rebuilds these iconic prototypes for a select circle of enthusiasts, drawing on genuine manufacturer expertise to ensure unmatched authenticity.

Following the launch of this programme on 2 April in Neuburg an der Donau, Audi Sport will make appearances at three international classic car events in Germany, France, and Great Britain. The first handover is scheduled for mid-year.

Audi Sport is realising dreams for lovers of its legendary prototypes, allowing them to own an original chassis from one of the brand’s most successful eras. “We are restoring these chassis and fitting them with overhauled period-correct parts, adhering to rigorous standards and a high level of expertise,” explains Rolf Michl, Managing Director of Audi Sport GmbH. “In some instances, engineers from that era are involved in current projects. The Audi R18 e-tron quattro and the RS 5 DTM are our fastest racing cars ever. Our clients can look forward to exclusive, in-demand vehicles that deliver a thrilling driving experience. By joining this select group, our customers benefit from our motorsport expertise and receive comprehensive support.”

Audi achieved significant victories at Le Mans and claimed DTM championship titles. The winning chassis remain in AUDI AG’s collection, where Audi Tradition maintains and showcases them at events.

Potential buyers viewed the first two models in Neuburg an der Donau on 2 April, when Audi Sport unveiled chassis 107 of the RS 5 DTM and chassis 207 of the R18 e-tron quattro. In 2012, Romain Dumas, Loïc Duval, and Marc Gené secured the first victory of the newly developed RP2 generation in the FIA World Endurance Championship WEC at Spa-Francorchamps with that R18 chassis. The RS 5 DTM chassis enjoyed triumph in 2015 with Timo Scheider at the DTM finale in Hockenheim.

The unveiling at the Audi Sport Racing Legends headquarters marks the start of the sales phase for these rare vehicles. From 9 to 11 May, the project group will attend the Jim Clark Revival in Hockenheim (Germany), the Le Mans Classic in France from 3 to 6 July, and the Festival of Speed in Goodwood (United Kingdom) from 10 to 13 July.

The prototype will be sold and delivered to its new owner this summer, but Audi Sport’s commitment does not end there. The brand will continue to provide regular technical inspections, offer repairs, and supply spare parts with guidance from former developers. Audi Sport Racing Legends also supports owners at events, ensuring comprehensive assistance throughout. By making a limited number of drivable prototypes from LMP1 racing and the Class 1 DTM era available, Audi Sport Racing Legends grants exclusive clientele access to exceptional one-offs from an unforgettable motorsport chapter.
