BYD Unveils Revolutionary BD11 Electric Double-Decker Bus in London, Setting New Standards in Eco-Friendly Public Transport

BYD, a global leader in manufacturing new energy vehicles (NEVs) and power batteries, proudly launched its groundbreaking electric double-decker bus, the BYD BD11, at the London Bus Museum. This venue holds historical significance as it showcases the first electric bus utilising a BYD K9E chassis for London's public transport.

The BYD BD11 marks a significant step for BYD in the UK public transportation market. Gearing up to begin service later this year, the BD11 will soon roll out across the UK, with a regional variant set to follow. Tailored for London's streets, it will soon roll out nationwide, demonstrating our commitment to providing reliable and sustainable transportation solutions.

Featuring the advanced Blade Battery, the BD11 sets industry benchmarks with its impressive range, performance, and rapid charging capabilities, boasting a leading battery capacity of up to 532kWh. This innovation supports dual-gun and pantograph fast charging up to 500kW, allowing a full recharge from 0 to 100% in just two hours. Launched in 2020, the Blade Battery integrates into the bus's chassis, optimising weight distribution, enhancing stability, and expanding interior space for passengers—all while setting new safety and technological standards for the industry.

The BD11 also includes an integrated thermal management system that maximises energy efficiency. It enhances passenger and driver comfort with active suspension control and offers a full suite of safety features, including the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS).

As the only NEV manufacturer that develops its powertrain systems, power batteries, automotive semiconductors, motors, and motor controller systems, BYD has more than 1,800 eBuses in service across UK roads. These buses have collectively covered over 80 million miles, reducing 137 million tonnes of CO2 emissions.

In its ongoing commitment to innovation, BYD recently introduced new eBus technologies for the European market, including the launch of the B12 model. The company continues to lead the development of cutting-edge technologies for public transport globally.

"BYD is at the forefront of technological advancement, leading the global shift towards sustainable public transportation," stated Frank Thorpe, Managing Director of BYD UK Commercial Vehicles. "The BD11 will significantly reduce air pollution in London and help achieve the UK's broader carbon neutrality goals."

"We are excited to introduce our innovative, top-tier electric double-decker bus, providing safe and dependable electric mobility," Thorpe added. "Our new eBus offers modern, eco-friendly alternatives that align with operators' needs, paving the way for more people to choose clean, pollution-free bus services in the future."
