Discover HORSE's Innovative Radial Flux eMotor: Revolutionising Hybrid and Plug-in Vehicles
HORSE, a pioneer in innovative and low-emissions powertrain systems, has launched production of its cutting-edge eMotor at the Aveiro facility in Portugal. This radial flux eMotor incorporates the most advanced technology and materials to deliver superior performance and efficiency, setting new standards for plug-in and hybrid vehicles.
Designed initially for hybrid powertrain systems, the eMotor is compatible with HORSE’s HR12, HR16, and HR18 internal combustion engines. It excels in full and plug-in hybrid configurations, providing a maximum power of 49kW and 212Nm of torque.
Patrice Haettel, Chief Executive Officer at HORSE, stated, "The initiation of eMotor production at Aveiro underscores our dedication to developing efficient powertrains with the latest technology. Its compact design and capability to operate in 100% electric mode make this powerful and efficient motor ideal for various hybrid vehicles. HORSE continues to be the preferred partner for our clients on their electrification journeys."
The eMotor's compact design allows it to be mounted between the internal combustion engine and the transmission, offering two driving modes: entirely electric and hybrid. In electric mode, the eMotor propels the wheels directly, achieving speeds up to 130km/h. In hybrid mode, it aids the internal combustion engine, enhancing acceleration and fuel efficiency. Moreover, during deceleration, the eMotor is a generator, capturing kinetic energy and storing it in the vehicle’s battery.
HORSE’s Aveiro plant has invested in four new production lines to facilitate this production, enabling an annual output of up to 160,000 units. Each line is dedicated to different production stages, including the machining of motor housing, rotor shaft, magnets, and final assembly. A standout feature is a three-head precision winding machine that enhances the speed and accuracy of constructing the eMotor’s core, exemplifying HORSE's commitment to technological advancement and sustainability in vehicle electrification.
