Explore Audi's Q6 e-tron Offroad Concept: Revolutionising Electric Offroad Adventure

Audi is revealing its groundbreaking Q6 off-road concept. This innovative prototype has two electric motors, delivering a total power output of 380 kW. Thanks to its newly engineered portal axles, it can ascend slopes as steep as 100 percent.

"The launch of the Q6 showcases a potential addition to the advanced offroad segment. An increase in ride height by 160 mm (6.3 in) and a wider track width of 250 mm (9.8 in) enhance its striking presence.

After an initial test drive, Audi CEO Gernot Döllner expressed his enthusiasm: “The Q6 e-tron offroad concept redefines quattro technology. This model demonstrates the capabilities of our all-electric vehicle platform. It's a vehicle that breaks new ground. We're eager to gauge our customers' responses to this profoundly stirring car.”

Traditional portal axles usually boost wheel torque by 20 to 30 per cent, but Audi's novel design enhances it by 50 per cent. Although this reduces the top speed to 175 km/h (108 mph)—suitable for an off-roader—it allows the vehicle to tackle inclines up to 45 degrees.

Innovation starts with the right questions. For the Q6, it was: How can we engineer an intensely emotive electric vehicle? The answer led to the creation of four custom-built portal axles integrated into the wheel hub assemblies at both the front and rear axles, requiring modifications to the suspension links. These axles elevate the peak torque at all wheels to 13,400 Nm (9,883 lb-ft), an increase of 4,400 Nm (3,245 lb-ft). This is how Audi embodies the spirit of Vorsprung durch Technik, both on and off the road.

The Audi Q6 e-tron, forming the basis for this concept car, is the first production model to utilise the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) and sets a new benchmark for electric Vorsprung durch Technik. The Q6 model series delivers remarkable driving and charging performance and establishes new standards in range and efficiency.

Witness the Audi Q6 e-tron offroad concept in action on February 1, 2025, at the F.A.T. Ice Race.
