Explore Electric Innovation at Tokyo Auto Salon 2025 with Caterham and XING Mobility
The Tokyo Auto Salon 2025, one of the world's premier automotive exhibitions, opened today at Makuhari Messe in Chiba City, Japan. This event showcases the world's leading automotive brands, presenting the latest trends and innovations. This year, the legendary British sports car manufacturer Caterham has teamed up with Taiwan's XING Mobility, a pioneer in battery technology, to reveal their all-electric lightweight concept sports car, Project V. This collaboration, featuring XING Mobility's state-of-the-art IMMERSIO™ CTP (cell-to-pack) battery system, marks a significant milestone in Caterham’s journey towards electrification.
Caterham, renowned for its lightweight construction and superior driving experience, takes its legacy forward with Project V. This electric concept car incorporates an advanced battery system using XING Mobility's IMMERSIO™ CTP technology, specifically tailored to sports cars' compact design requirements. The CTP architecture enhances the vehicle by significantly reducing weight and increasing energy density, which complements the stable thermal management that maintains optimal performance even under high-speed and demanding driving conditions. Additionally, the flexible design of the CTP battery pack improves vehicle dynamics and handling by optimising weight distribution. The compact design is a perfect fit for Project V’s streamlined chassis, and the immersion-cooling technology ensures safety by enhancing thermal runaway protection, meeting the strictest safety requirements for high-performance sports cars.
Royce Hong, Founder and CEO of XING Mobility and a dedicated Caterham 7 owner expressed his honour in collaborating with Caterham on this pivotal step towards electrification. "Caterham’s philosophy of simplicity and lightweight design aligns perfectly with our vision for innovation, simplicity, and efficiency. We are confident that this partnership will pave the way for a new chapter in the electric driving experience," he stated.
Takuya Yamazaki, CEO of Caterham Evo, also expressed his excitement about the potential of XING Mobility's immersion-cooled battery technology. He predicts that it will soon become a critical technology for battery cooling in the automotive industry. "The prospect of further collaboration with XING Mobility is incredibly exciting," he added.
Since its debut at the UK's Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2023, Project V has attracted global attention from automotive enthusiasts for its innovative design and performance capabilities. Its presence at the 2025 Tokyo Auto Salon signifies another crucial milestone in Caterham's transition to electric vehicles. The partnership between Caterham and XING Mobility demonstrates their shared commitment to innovation and sustainability and highlights the limitless potential of electric sports cars.
Caterham invites visitors to the Tokyo Auto Salon 2025 to explore Project V up close at booth No. 703 in East Hall 7, where they can experience the pioneering design features powered by XING Mobility’s advanced battery technologies.
