GMA Relocates T.50 Supercar Production to Highams Park: A Strategic Move for Enhanced Efficiency and Innovation
Gordon Murray Automotive (GMA), the esteemed British vehicle manufacturer, has strategically relocated its T.50 supercar production to the newly constructed Group headquarters in Highams Park, Surrey.
The transition to the new site marks a pivotal moment as manufacturing of the GMA T.50 supercar shifts from its former location at Dunsfold Park. This strategic move promises enhanced efficiency in T.50 production while facilitating streamlined carbon fibre monocoque production for T.33 prototypes and upcoming models at Dunsfold Park. The process is accelerated by bringing monocoque production in-house, expediting the supercar's pre-production phases.
The construction of the Gordon Murray Group HQ in Highams Park involved an investment exceeding £50 million and the creation of various specialized job roles in supporting comprehensive production operations. This new campus, which serves as the global headquarters, encompasses a purpose-built 4,300 square metre Vehicle Production Centre and houses the Gordon Murray Heritage collection. Additionally, it boasts a specially designed Vehicle Dynamics Test Road for final validation and pre-delivery checks of new GMA supercars, all nestled within 54 acres of picturesque English parkland. For customers opting to receive their cars from Highams Park, the dedicated Driving Perfection Customer Centre provides an ideal environment for the specification, set-up, and delivery of their GMA supercar.
Phillip Lee, CEO of Gordon Murray Group, expressed, "The new Gordon Murray Automotive HQ at Highams Park signifies a substantial investment for the business and underscores our commitment to the company's future. We are delighted to continue T.50 manufacturing at the new site while enhancing production of T.33 development prototypes."
With the relocation to Highams Park, where all forthcoming GMA models will be crafted, the company remains on track to fulfil all 100 exclusive T.50 customer orders. After completing the T.50 production run, GMA will assemble the 25 track-only T.50s Niki Lauda models. Subsequently, the production team will start producing the T.33 coupe, succeeded by its open-top counterpart, the T.33 Spider, at the Highams Park Vehicle Production Centre.
The move to the new HQ promises significant manufacturing efficiencies, consolidating logistics, parts supply, and testing processes. Supercar production teams stand to benefit from cutting-edge technologies and optimized production layouts, which enhance efficiency, collaboration, and production quality.
Mofid Elkemiri, CEO of Gordon Murray Automotive, remarked, "The relocation of our T.33 experimental prototype monocoque production to the vacated Dunsfold Park facility accelerates the program and enhances efficiencies significantly. We are progressing excellently with T.33 development, with our initial three mule cars undergoing rigorous early testing."
GMA plans to manufacture over 27 prototype versions of the T.33 coupe and Spider, focusing on pre-production testing and development activities encompassing chassis dynamics, aerodynamics, durability, performance, emissions, crash testing, and certification. The T.33 will undergo full homologation for significant markets, including Europe and the United States, with the development team conducting more than 30 crash tests using prototype vehicles.
Weighing in at just 1,090 kg, the six-speed manual T.33 will deliver the brand's hallmark 'Driving Perfection' through meticulous attention to detail, exquisite design, and the potent 617 PS 3.9 litre Cosworth GMA.2 V12 engine capable of revving past 11,000 rpm. Following the T.50s production at Highams Park, only 100 coupe and 100 Spider models of the T.33 are slated for production, destined for owners worldwide.
