Hyundai IONIQ 5 N Aims to Break PPIHC Electric Production SUV/Crossover Record: Setting New Heights in Performance and Innovation
Hyundai ignites anticipation at the 102nd Pikes Peak International Hill Climb (PPIHC) on June 23, 2024, as a new generation of owners takes the wheel of the IONIQ 5 N. Two 641-horsepower IONIQ 5 N cars will challenge the Electric Production SUV/Crossover record as part of a four-car endeavour.
Till Wartenberg, head of N Brand and Motorsport, proclaims, "We're back at the mountain, stronger than ever, armed with the class-leading electric SUV, the IONIQ 5 N. Hyundai's legacy of pioneering new technologies and products at Pikes Peak continues with the high-performance IONIQ 5 N, a vehicle that competes and showcases what customers can expect from their future Hyundai."
Two distinct personalities are behind the wheel of the IONIQ 5 N vehicles, aiming for the Electric Production SUV/Crossover record. Paul Dallenbach, an eleven-time PPIHC winner, brings his wealth of experience. At the same time, Ron Zaras, a PPIHC rookie and media personality, offers a fresh perspective that will be documented in his journey to the event.
Zaras expresses his excitement: "Competing in the IONIQ 5 N at Pikes Peak is an incredible honour. From spectator to competitor, it's my dream come true."
Hyundai will unveil a modified IONIQ 5 N to compete at PPIHC before the ADAC RAVENOL 24h Nürburgring on May 30. Dani Sordo, a Spanish World Rally Championship driver, will drive it, joining Robin Shute, a four-time Pikes Peak winner.
The IONIQ 5 N is chosen for its racetrack capabilities, having undergone rigorous testing and development, including at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Equipped with cutting-edge technologies, it boasts structural enhancements, N-tuned brakes, and a remarkable brake regenerative force of 0.6G.
Safety updates for Pikes Peak include a Recaro Pro Racer SPA Hans seat, Sabelt six-point HANS-compatible seat belts, removal of rear seats, and installation of a roll cage and fire suppression system. Preparations for Pikes Peak involve minor updates and plans to adorn the IONIQ 5 N with a striking Hyundai N livery.
