HORSE Drives Future of Mobility with Launch of Groundbreaking 2030 Sustainability Plan

HORSE, a pioneer in low-emissions powertrain systems, proudly unveils its' 2030 Sustainability Plan', which targets ambitious carbon reduction and social impact goals. The company commits to the Net Zero Standard, already endorsed by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), with a vision to transform into a carbon net zero sustainable mobility leader by 2050.

By 2030, HORSE will have achieved critical milestones across operations, product diversification, and emission reductions throughout its supply network. The company aims to ensure that 60% of its global sales comprise low-carbon engines by the decade's end. This shift will include an array of next-generation hybrid, lightweight range extenders and innovative synthetic and hydrogen-fuelled power solutions, achieving a significant 29% cut in emissions per kilometre from 2023 levels.

To accomplish these goals, HORSE is expanding its line-up to include more hybrid electric and plug-in hybrid powertrains alongside enhanced flex-fuel options such as E85 and E100 ethanol engines and those powered by Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG).

Patrice Haettel, CEO of HORSE, emphasises the integration of sustainability: "Sustainability is at the core of our identity. We are committed to reducing the carbon footprint of mobility and advancing the energy transition necessary for global decarbonisation. Our role extends beyond creating low-emission solutions; we are catalysts for sustainable transformation in the automotive industry, promoting responsible and inclusive mobility."

As HORSE strides towards its 2050 carbon net-zero goal, it acknowledges the forthcoming challenges but remains confident in its innovative capabilities and skilled workforce to realise its long-term objectives.

The '2030 Sustainability Plan' focuses on the end product and targets a 42% reduction in scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions by 2030, compared to 2023. By this milestone, every HORSE facility will operate solely on renewable electricity, building on the current achievement where over two-thirds of its plants have already made this transition.

Sustainability enhancements in production include increasing recycled aluminium usage to 73% and implementing biodiversity assessments at all facilities to ensure positive local environmental impacts. HORSE is dedicated to fostering a safe and engaged workforce, with all sites aiming for certification under the Great Place to Work scheme.

Moreover, HORSE has allocated £3 million to social contribution projects to empower employees and support local communities. The company also extends its commitment to sustainability to its supply network, mandating all partners to meet its stringent ESG criteria by 2030.

Established as a global provider of efficient, low-emission engines and technologies, HORSE operates eight production plants in seven countries, three R&D centres, and a headquarters in Madrid, Spain. It produces 3.2 million units annually for a global clientele.
