Hyundai Motor Hits 100 Million Vehicles Milestone: A Celebration of Innovation and Dedication
Hyundai Motor Company celebrated a landmark achievement by marking the production of 100 million vehicles worldwide, achieving this milestone in just 57 years since its establishment. This positions Hyundai as one of the fastest automakers to reach such a figure in the global automotive industry. A special ceremony was held at Hyundai's Ulsan Plant in Korea to commemorate this significant milestone.
In recognition of the unwavering support and trust, Hyundai handed over its 100 millionth and first vehicle, an IONIQ 5, directly to a customer. This vehicle emerged from the final inspection at Ulsan Plant’s shipping centre during a celebratory event highlighting the theme '100 million and 1', symbolising Hyundai Motor's commitment to advancing beyond its past achievements.
Jaehoon Chang, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor Company, shared his gratitude: "Reaching a global cumulative production of 100 million vehicles is a significant milestone, made possible by our loyal customers worldwide. Our commitment to embracing bold challenges and continuously pursuing innovation has driven our rapid growth and will propel us towards the next 100 million units as a pioneer in mobility solutions."
The Ulsan Plant, operational since 1968, is celebrated as the birthplace of the Korean automobile industry. In 1975, Korea's first mass-produced model, the Pony, was manufactured here. The Ulsan Plant is a pivotal centre for electrification, with a dedicated electric vehicle (EV) facility in development.
Dong Seock Lee, President and Head of Domestic Productions at Hyundai Motor Company, remarked, "Every employee at Hyundai Motor has contributed to achieving this milestone of 100 million units through their dedication and hard work. This milestone marks just the beginning as we pave the way for the future era of electrification that Hyundai Motor is set to lead."
Hyundai Motor's growth has been bolstered by the launch of its premium brand Genesis and the high-performance brand N and the introduction of EVs such as the IONIQ 5, based on the dedicated electric global modular platform (E-GMP). With production facilities in Turkey, India, the U.S., and the Czech Republic, the company surpassed 50 million vehicles manufactured in 2013.
Last year, Hyundai continued its momentum by establishing the Hyundai Motor Group Global Innovation Center in Singapore (HMGICS), envisaged as an intelligent urban mobility hub. The cutting-edge manufacturing platforms and technologies developed there, including artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and smart factories, are set to revolutionise future production sites, such as the Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA), maximising production efficiency. Hyundai continues to innovate and expand, reinforcing its commitment to excellence and customer satisfaction.
