Hyundai Motors Unveils IONIQ 5 N eN1 Cup Car

At the upcoming Hyundai N Festival motorsports event, Hyundai Motor Company revealed the IONIQ 5 N eN1 Cup car during the official practice round for participating teams. This cutting-edge electric racing car, derived from the award-winning IONIQ 5 N high-performance electric vehicle (EV), marks the dawn of a sustainable racing era.

Till Wartenberg, Vice President and Head of N Brand & Motorsport, expressed pride in the unveiling, stating, "We are incredibly proud to unveil the IONIQ 5 N eN1 Cup car, demonstrating our commitment to sustainable racing. This unique electric racing car showcases our leading technology and our dedication to pushing the boundaries of EV performance on the track."

The IONIQ 5 N eN1 Cup car employs the same power electronics (PE) system as the production IONIQ 5 N, featuring a potent powertrain and larger battery capacity than the base model. As the N brand's inaugural high-performance EV, the IONIQ 5 N boasts formidable acceleration and a high-power output of up to 650 PS, ensuring durability for rigorous circuit driving. It leverages Hyundai Motor's Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), a robust battery thermal management system, and efficient regenerative braking technology.

Like the existing Avante (Elantra) N1 class, the IONIQ 5 N eN1 Cup car targets professional drivers in the N1 class, offering enhanced circuit performance with slick tyres. Introducing the new eN1 class this year, Hyundai implements open regulations allowing teams to use various tyre products without brand limitations.

The IONIQ 5 N eN1 Cup car showcases a redesigned body kit with low and wide-style over-fenders, broader wheel trajectories, and improved aerodynamics for superior handling and downforce. It sheds weight through component reduction and utilises forged wheels, an FRP hood, and polycarbonate windows. Spectators will be treated to thrilling sounds produced by NGB over-boost, virtual shift (N e-Shift), and amplified NAS+ (N Active Sound), with each race team customising their unique soundscape.

The IONIQ 5 N eN1 Cup car prioritises safety, integrating safety features like roll cages, racing bucket seats, and seat belts. Additional precautions include electric fire extinguishers, asphyxiation fire extinguishers, and modified charge port locations, ensuring the highest level of safety in EV racing.
