ID.X Performance unveiled

Volkswagen unveils its groundbreaking all-electric sports limousine in the upper mid-sized class at the ID—Treffen event in Locarno, Switzerland, from September 8 to 9. The ID.X Performance show car wows with its potent all-wheel drive, performance-oriented suspension, and captivating design.

Maria Soni Reissfelder, the Head of Marketing & Sales for Volkswagen's ID. Family exclaims, “Presenting the ID.X Performance in front of Europe's ID. Enthusiasts give us a unique opportunity to connect with members of the ID—drivers Club in person. The collaborative efforts of Andreas Reckewerth and his team of engineers have unlocked the full potential of the MEB platform, seamlessly merging sporty performance with the elegance of a limousine. And this is just the beginning; we're unveiling a range of production models, including the eagerly awaited ID.72, which has recently started pre-sales in Germany."

Andreas Reckewerth, Head of Technology Office MEB, and his dedicated team have crafted this show car based on the new ID.7, pushing the boundaries of vehicle development. He emphasizes, “The MEB platform offers a wealth of opportunities for creative vehicle development. It was evident that we wanted to build our new show car on the ID.7 and focus on enhancing its performance, demonstrating the true potential of electric mobility." The MEB, a Modular Electric Drive platform from Volkswagen, is the foundation of this innovative masterpiece.

The ID.X Performance radiates its unique athleticism through a dynamic appearance. This all-electric limousine boasts an array of sporty features, with carbon front and rear diffusers, an 80-millimetre wider stance, and a 60-millimetre lower sports suspension—making for agile and exhilarating vehicle handling.

Riding on 20-inch sports alloy wheels with a central lock and 265 racing tires, the rear carbon wing provides essential downforce. Tinted tail light clusters add to the sporty appeal of this high-performance electric limousine. Inside, passengers enjoy carbon bucket seats for optimal support during spirited drives, accented by bold red highlights.

In the ID.X Performance show car, Volkswagen enhances the experience with a robust dual-motor drive, delivering 411 kW (558 PS) and a powerful boost function. By adding an asynchronous motor to the front axle alongside the permanently excited synchronous motor on the rear axle, an all-wheel drive system is born. This drive type ensures short-time overload capability and minimal drag losses, making it ideal for quick bursts of power. The Vehicle Dynamics Manager governs the drive torque and manages the rear axle differential lock, all effortlessly controlled on a 17-centimetre screen in the centre console.

Supplied by a high-capacity drive battery, this dual-motor drive ensures continuous power output and rapid charging times, with a capacity of up to 200 kW.
