Toyota Gazoo Racing Takes Motorsport Innovation to New Heights in 2025

TOYOTA GAZOO Racing (TGR) continues to refine legendary models and foster a deep enthusiasm for motorsport by reaffirming its commitment to making ever-better cars through racing. Established in 2007, TGR relentlessly tests vehicles in extreme racing environments, where technology is pushed to breaking point, and team members cultivate a spirit of collaboration and creative problem-solving.

Originating in Nürburgring, TGR expanded its vision globally. The team has earned World Championships in rally, endurance racing, and raids, adding another trio of FIA manufacturers’ titles last year. In 2025, TGR plans even more ambitious challenges, leveraging its uncompromising mindset to advance technology and people through projects that push performance to new limits.

When Akio Toyoda – Master Driver Morizo – and his mentor, Master Driver Hiromu Naruse, formed GAZOO Racing in 2007, they chose the Nürburgring 24 Hours endurance race as the ultimate proving ground. Their guiding principle, “roads build people, and people build cars,” will fuel TGR’s return to the Nürburgring in 2025 after a six-year break. For the first time, TGR will unite with ROOKIE Racing, a private team devoted to training talent and creating ever-better cars. Together, they will compete as TOYOTA GAZOO ROOKIE Racing (TGRR) in the Nürburgring Langstrecken Serie (NLS), the Nürburgring 24 Hours, and Japan’s Super Taikyu series.

TGRR will race with a GR Yaris equipped with the newly developed GAZOO Racing Direct Automatic Transmission (DAT). This system automatically executes ultra-fast downshifts, enabling drivers to concentrate on steering, braking, and accelerating. TGRR will further refine the transmission through the harsh realities of racing.

Simultaneously, the mid-engined GR Yaris M Concept showcases a 2.0-litre, in-line four-cylinder turbocharged engine under development. Engineered to maximise performance and efficiency, it features exceptionally compact dimensions that deliver a low centre of gravity. By positioning the engine in the middle of the vehicle, TGRR achieves optimised weight distribution and sharper cornering. During intense testing in the 2025 Super Taikyu series, TGRR will follow a “driver-first” development process, subjecting vehicles to repeated failure and repair in demanding race conditions, while incorporating feedback from Morizo, professional drivers, and gentleman drivers.

Another track-inspired concept demonstrates TGR’s dedication to building ever-better cars. The GR Yaris Aero Package, driven by a passion for cars, motorsport, and driving, represents TGR’s “driver-first” ethos. Lessons from testing and competition directly inform its development. Aerodynamic enhancements, such as a rear wing with an adjustable angle, allow drivers to fine-tune downforce. Distinctive front wing ducts behind the front wheels improve airflow and offer a more gripping feel. Additional vents on the lower sides of the rear bumper channel airflow from the rear wheel housing, while a motorsport-style vent on the bonnet aids cooling. A vertical handbrake completes the package.

As TGR explores new technology and reimagines performance in the GR Yaris, the current-generation GR Supra reaches its pinnacle with the A90 Final Edition. This special edition is available for order now and offers a breathtaking blend of power, agility, and precision, bolstered by motorsport-inspired modifications for increased excitement. Powertrain upgrades raise output from 340 DIN hp (250 kW) to 441 DIN hp (324 kW) and torque from 500 Nm to 571 Nm. Acceleration and response improve, and maximum speed climbs by 20 km/h to 270 km/h. Cornering potential is maximised through damping-force-adjustable KW suspension, more direct steering, new 19-inch Brembo drilled brakes, and broader, high-grip tyres, all complemented by a carbon-fibre driver’s seat.

Through these engineering initiatives, TOYOTA GAZOO Racing seeks to shape viable solutions for carbon-neutral motoring while preserving a thrilling future for motorsport. TGR supports Toyota’s multi-pathway approach by promoting alternative powertrains and fuels in racing, allowing customers worldwide to cut emissions. All TGR World Championship entries use sustainable fuels, including 100% renewable biofuels for the GR YARIS Rally1 in the World Rally Championship and the GR010 HYBRID in the World Endurance Championship. In the punishing Dakar Rally, TGR introduced a fuel containing 70% renewable components in partnership with Repsol.

Building on Rookie Racing’s advancements with the hydrogen-powered GR Corolla H2, TGR has also demonstrated the potential of hydrogen technology in rally and racing with the GR Yaris H2 and GR H2 Racing Concept prototypes. In 2025, TGR will remain firmly dedicated to developing talent and technologies in motorsport, reinforcing its mission to create ever-better cars through bold challenges and a driver-focused philosophy.
