Škoda Fabia RS Rally2 Receives Major Performance Upgrade with ‘Packet 25’ for 2025 Season
The Škoda Fabia RS Rally2 enters its third entire season more potent than ever, following the release of a comprehensive upgrade package designed to improve performance, reliability, and crew comfort. With over 600 podium finishes and more than 150 cars sold worldwide, Škoda Motorsport’s latest Rally2-spec machine continues to dominate the WRC2 category of the FIA World Rally Championship, as well as the FIA European Rally Championship and numerous national and continental series.
Škoda Motorsport has introduced the newly homologated ‘Packet 25’ update to maintain its competitive edge. This performance-enhancing package is available for new cars and existing Fabia RS Rally2 models, ensuring all teams benefit from the latest developments.
Since the Rally2 category—formerly R5—was introduced in 2015, Škoda Motorsport has led the field. Its factory and customer teams have recorded over 25,000 rally starts and 7,000 podium finishes worldwide. The Fabia RS Rally2, launched in 2022, builds on this success, quickly becoming a firm favourite among rally teams at every level.
Škoda Motorsport has continued to refine the Fabia RS Rally2 since its initial FIA homologation on 1 September 2022. The latest update, dubbed ‘Packet 25’, results from extensive development and testing. Twelve rally drivers covered more than 4,000 kilometres in demanding conditions to help fine-tune the components.
Engine improvements in Packet 25 aim to boost the powertrain's thermodynamic efficiency. Optimisations to the exhaust system now improve exhaust gas flow, resulting in better combustion and mixture preparation. A redesigned exhaust manifold reduces in-cylinder gas exchange energy demand by 27%. Coupled with a lighter exhaust system and advanced engine management software, these changes significantly increase power output and deliver a sharper engine response.
Among the standout additions is a newly developed gravel damper setup engineered to endure more significant stress and perform more reliably on rough terrain. Changes to the damper reservoirs and internal seals provide increased durability without adding weight. Additional upgrades include improved rear upright protection, which extends the service life of driveshaft boots, brake callipers, and cooling ducts. New uniball seals also increase the longevity of suspension components, helping to lower overall operating costs.
Packet 25 introduces a newly designed roof vent for cockpit enhancements that boosts airflow, enhances filtration, and prevents water ingress. Lightweight racing seats—approximately 2 kg lighter per unit—add comfort and lower the car’s centre of gravity, improving balance and handling.
Michal Hrabánek, Head of Škoda Motorsport, commented: "Work on a successful rally car is never finished. The Škoda Fabia RS Rally2 has delivered excellent results, but we are committed to ongoing development. With Packet 25, we’ve introduced thoroughly tested improvements, FIA-homologated, and ready for our customers to use."
Škoda Motorsport’s dedication to development ensures its customer teams have the tools to succeed across all levels of rallying. The Packet 25 upgrade package marks another step forward in keeping the Fabia RS Rally2 at the forefront of international competition.
