Bentley Mulliner Debuts China-Inspired Bespoke Collections: Craftsmanship Meets Cultural Elegance
Mulliner, Bentley's Bespoke Studio, has masterfully curated a series of unique bespoke collections inspired by Chinese culture. These eight distinct collections showcase Bentley’s renowned handcraftsmanship, blending colour, texture, and design to create an exclusive offering for the Chinese market.
The bespoke design team at Mulliner has meticulously brought each collection to life, paying extraordinary attention to every detail. This includes the precise number of claws on the embroidered dragon’s feet and the directional swimming of the colourful Koi Carp in the cabin, ensuring perfect detail.
The collections feature the Bentayga Extended Wheelbase (EWB), Flying Spur, and Continental GT, each serving as a unique canvas inspired by animals, renowned artworks, and symbolic objects. In ancient China, Koi were believed to bring courage and luck, and their vibrant colours were held in high esteem. The Bentayga EWB’s spacious cabin is ideal for displaying the striking contrast between the Mandarin orange accents and the Beluga black interior, reminiscent of the Koi’s vivid colours and the textured granite stone of the centre console.
In the design process, the Koi fish needed to appear swimming clockwise, symbolising themes of good fortune, balance, and perseverance. Moreover, the number six, symbolising smoothness and success in Chinese culture is cleverly incorporated with six fish detailed throughout the car.
The ‘ripple’ effect on the passenger fascia and treadplate mimics the gentle water ripples created by a moving Koi Carp. Gold accents enhance the design, symbolising wealth and good luck.
One standout collection takes inspiration from Wang Ximeng's "A Thousand Miles of Rivers and Mountains," a renowned Song Dynasty landscape painting. Centred around the Flying Spur Azure, the team drew from the painting’s blues, greens, and golds, infusing these into the bespoke blue cabin with detailed embroidery and overlays that echo the painting’s serene and harmonious themes.
Another highlight is the Ru Yi collection, which is based on traditional Chinese decorative objects that symbolise good luck and prosperity. This collection features three colour specifications in the Flying Spur, showcasing gold thread embroidery and silver overlays that resonate with the object’s symbolic meanings.
Mulliner’s ‘Inspired by China’ range also includes collections featuring Dragons, Lions dancing, and playful Pandas. Each is crafted to reflect specific cultural symbols and hues, from the colour of the eyes to bamboo-inspired accents.
Mulliner demonstrates its expert craftsmanship and deep cultural appreciation through these collections, delivering an inspired and exclusive range of bespoke collections tailored for the Chinese market.
