Lola Cars Charges into Formula E with GEN4 Commitment Through 2030

Lola Cars have entered the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship for the GEN4 era, committing to race until 2030.

With the introduction of cutting-edge GEN4 technology in the 2026/2027 season, Lola will leverage significant enhancements in energy efficiency, race performance, and safety. This move marks a strategic step for Lola to advance its sustainable e-mobility technologies.

Mark Preston, Motorsport Director at Lola Cars Ltd, expressed his excitement about the commitment to GEN4, highlighting Formula E as a prime platform for developing powertrains and software for broader motorsport and automotive uses.

“The evolving performance and technology in this series amplify our potential to innovate across global motorsport and the broader zero-emissions transport sector,” Preston stated.

Although still in development, the GEN4 cars will dramatically increase their capabilities. They will feature 600kW of power and 700kW of regenerative braking, significantly up from the GEN3 era's 350kW and 600kW.

Jeff Dodds, CEO of Formula E, welcomed Lola Cars' return to premier motorsport in Season 11 and their continued commitment through 2030. “Their decision to invest in our championship underscores our capacity to attract leading motorsport names and drive the series forward,” Dodds said.

Marek Nawarecki, FIA Senior Circuit Sport Director, confirmed Lola Cars as the fourth manufacturer committed to GEN4. “Lola’s consistent belief in our technical roadmap and their historical success in motorsport positions them as a key player in the future of electric single-seater racing,” Nawarecki noted.

Lola’s entry into Formula E is part of its broader strategy to reclaim a leadership position in sustainable engineering and motorsport, focusing on electrification, hydrogen, and sustainable fuels and materials.
