Maserati Launches MC20 Icona and MC20 Leggenda: Celebrating 20 Years of Racing Heritage

Maserati's racing spirit ignites with the introduction of the MC20 Icona and MC20 Leggenda, two exclusive series commemorating the 20th anniversary of Maserati's return to competition in 2004 after a 37-year hiatus. These series draw inspiration from the iconic and victorious MC12, which first appeared in a road version and quickly set a benchmark in GT championships.

Launched in 2020, the Maserati MC20 super sports car, influenced by the MC12, heralded a new era for Maserati as the first model to feature the groundbreaking V6 Nettuno engine, celebrating Italian craftsmanship.

The MC20 Icona and MC20 Leggenda series, each limited to 20 units, boast special liveries and unique features inspired by the MC12 Stradale and MC12 GT1 Vitaphone, respectively.

The MC20 Icona's livery recalls one of Maserati’s iconic cars, the 2004 MC12 Stradale. It pays homage to the Maserati Trofeo Light's style during the 24 Hours of Daytona race, which drew inspiration from the legendary Maserati Birdcage Type 61, produced between 1959 and 1961.

The MC20 Icona features exclusive details from the Fuoriserie personalisation programme in Bianco Audace Matte and Blu Stradale livery. The Bianco Audace Maserati Fuoriserie logo and the Italian flag on the door beneath the MC20 lettering are notable.

The chrome wheels showcase a distinct Trident design, silver hubcaps and a contrasting blue Trident logo. Blue brake callipers, auto-dimming mirrors, and a carbon fibre engine cover enhance its allure.

The MC20 Leggenda tells its story through its name and livery in Nero Essenza and Digital Mint Matte, echoing the colours of the victorious MC12 GT1 under Vitaphone Racing. This car achieved a remarkable three wins and two runner-up positions in the 24 Hours of Spa.

The Fuoriserie touches for the MC20 Leggenda include trident wheels in Nero Lucido with Nero Opaco and Trident Digital Mint hubcaps, yellow Trident logos on the grille, doors, and C-pillar, and black painted brake callipers.

Both special series feature racing interiors with lightweight 4-way monocoque racing seats, detailed with Trident embroidery on the headrests and the words “Icona” or “Leggenda”, depending on the model. A badge on the powerful Nettuno engine’s cover reads either “ICONA. UNA DI 20” or “LEGGENDA. UNA DI 20”.

Inside, both cars boast the advanced Sonus faber sound system, carbon fibre interior package, electronic limited-slip differential, suspension lifter, and safety features like blind spot and rear cross path detection systems. They also come with customised mats in the front and boot.

The MC20 Icona and MC20 Leggenda commemorate the 20th anniversary of Maserati's golden age on the track with the legendary MC12 GT1 and signal a continued legacy of racing excellence with the MC12’s torch passed to these new models.
