McMurtry Spéirling PURE Shatters Records at Hockenheimring with Groundbreaking Performance
On June 7th and 8th, McMurtry Automotive introduced the Spéirling PURE (Validation Prototype 1) to track-driving enthusiasts at the Hockenheimring F1 circuit. Over these two days, attendees witnessed the fan car’s capabilities in shared and exclusive sessions at the Dörr Group Track Day, mingling with other track-focused and race cars.
The Dörr Group orchestrated two exclusive McMurtry sessions, enabling guests to fully engage seamlessly with the fan car’s performance. Local timekeepers equipped the start-finish straight with a laser lap timer to heighten excitement. On June 8th, 2024, operating at 75% power and downforce, the car clocked a lap time 1.24.43 over the 2.842-mile F1 circuit. Independent timekeepers confirmed this time, and Max Chilton, a former F1 driver and record holder at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, was behind the wheel.
This lap time slashed 14.1 seconds off the time the track-focused hypercar, the Mercedes-AMG One, set in 2022. It also beat the 2020 DTM qualifying time by 3.907 seconds, making it the fastest closed-wheel car ever at Hockenheimring.
The McMurtry Spéirling PURE, a global hyper-track car, features a unique downforce-on-demand system that provides unparalleled downforce and grip from 0mph. This system pairs with a 1000bhp electric powertrain, offering performance modes ranging from GT3 to F1-level speed.
The test driver, Max Chilton, shared his joy at presenting the car during vibrant track events. He relived the excitement of racing at Hockenheim, drawing parallels to his F1 racing days a decade earlier. "Driving the Spéirling PURE offers track drivers a thrilling taste of F1 racing," said Chilton.
Thomas Yates, Managing Director at McMurtry Automotive, reflected on the guests' curiosity and enthusiasm. They were keen to understand the history of fan cars and what the future holds.
