McLaren Launches Exciting 2025 Trophy America Championship with High-Octane Races Across Iconic US Tracks
McLaren Automotive has announced the schedule for the inaugural 2025 McLaren Trophy America championship, set to launch next spring. Mirroring its European counterpart, this new championship will host ten rounds across five venues.
Launched in Europe for the 2023 season, the McLaren Trophy challenges serious racers with 50-minute races featuring pitstops for driver swaps. The competition is tailored for the 585PS V6 twin-turbo, carbon-fibre chassis Artura Trophy race car. Drivers of the older 570S Trophy can also compete.
The 2025 McLaren Trophy America will kick off in late March at Sonoma Raceway in Northern California, alongside the GT World Challenge America powered by AWS. The series will then move to the famous Circuit of the Americas, a seasoned host of the US Grand Prix for over a decade.
The championship's midpoint is set for Virginia International Raceway in July, followed by an August round at the challenging Road America circuit. The season will conclude at the Indianapolis road circuit in October.
The series features the bespoke McLaren Artura Trophy race cars, equipped with the same advanced engineering as the acclaimed McLaren Artura road car. This includes the McLaren Carbon Lightweight Architecture (MCLA), ensuring a light yet sturdy chassis optimal for top performance and safety on the track.
The same twin-turbo V6 engine powers these cars, tuned to deliver 585PS and unmatched straight-line speed. The engine’s 120-degree angle keeps it low within the chassis, enhancing cornering prowess. A unique aerodynamic setup with a high downforce rear wing also bolsters performance, allowing the Artura Trophy to rival GT3 class lap times while maximising driver engagement.
Independent teams will operate the cars, with the 570S Trophy models also competing for class victories and championships. McLaren Motorsport will provide comprehensive support, including parts and assistance at each event.
Among the first to join was McLaren Toronto, McLaren Americas Retailer of the Year, partnering with Motorsports in Action to field a two-car team. All races will be live-streamed on the McLaren Automotive YouTube channel, attracting over 250,000 viewers per event.
Mick McDonagh, Director of MSO and Motorsport at McLaren Automotive, expressed enthusiasm about bringing the series to iconic North American circuits, including Indianapolis and the Circuit of the Americas, in its first year.
