Maserati and Marchesi Antinori Unveil Bespoke GranCabrio for Tignanello's 50th Anniversary
Maserati and Marchesi Antinori are celebrating Tignanello's 50th anniversary by crafting a bespoke Fuoriserie version of the GranCabrio Folgore, Maserati's most advanced electric model to date. This one-of-a-kind vehicle, crafted exclusively for Marchesi Antinori, will go under the hammer on July 14 in California at the Festival Napa Valley's Arts for All Gala, a premier arts charity event in the US.
For Maserati's 110th anniversary, the company joins forces with Marchesi Antinori, a family-run winery with over 600 years of history spanning 26 generations, epitomising Italy's distinctive cultural heritage. Their robust identity, innovative flair, and deep-rooted tradition have positioned the Italian winery among the world's finest. Maserati, a vibrant and pioneering figure in automotive history, shares this spirit, driven by a passion to lead and define eras.
The GranCabrio Folgore Tignanello draws inspiration directly from the vineyard, symbolising deep roots and territorial connection. The value of their local regions greatly enhances their products: from the winemaking cellars of Tignanello to Maserati's iconic designs. Maserati has meticulously designed the car to embody the character and values of Marchesi Antinori and Tignanello, honouring the Florentine winemaking family through bespoke colours, innovative materials, and artisan details that transform the GranCabrio Folgore Tignanello into a tribute to the esteemed Tignanello vineyard and the wine's 50-year legacy.
The car features a custom "Terra di Tignanello" paint, a chestnut hue inspired by the vineyard soil, enriched with a coppery burgundy that echoes the deep red of Tignanello's barrels. The finish is a luxurious, metallic shade that captures the essence of the estate and the winery’s ambiance. Black rims and gloss callipers contrast with copper-coloured emblems and a glossy Maserati logo against a glossy backdrop, while the soft top is also black.
Inside, the romantic elements include interiors that showcase Tignanello's signatures. The seats are adorned with Vegea, a novel fabric derived from vineyards, featuring a silver and burgundy weave that resembles vine rows interspersed with Albarese rocks. This fabric, mimicking leather, debuts in a Maserati vehicle. Real materials, like dark briar wood with laser-engraved motifs reminiscent of oak barrel markings, decorate the panels, which include textual references to Tignanello's creation. Elegant embroidery on the headrest merges the Maserati Trident with Tignanello’s sun emblem, a long-standing label feature. This symbol, along with the dates 1971-2021, is also laser-engraved on the central tunnel, marking the wine's historic 50 years.
Klaus Busse, Head of Design at Maserati, comments on the collaboration: “This partnership with Marchesi Antinori allows us to define the essence of bespoke production, a cornerstone of our Maserati Fuoriserie customisation programme. Designed to create unique experiences for Trident customers, these tailor-made cars elevate the driving experience to unparalleled levels of luxury and distinction, much like an exceptional wine at the dinner table. This venture not only fuels our pride in Italian excellence but continually inspires our creative processes, striving to craft truly unique and irreplaceable masterpieces.”
Piero Antinori reflects on the collaboration: “Our relentless pursuit of excellence and constant self-reinvention form the foundation of our partnership with Maserati, a brand globally recognised as a hallmark of Italian quality. This unique model, inspired by Tignanello for its 50th anniversary, embodies a strong identity and recognition akin to our wine. We are exceptionally proud of this initiative; this special GranCabrio Folgore will be auctioned at Festival Napa Valley’s 2024 Arts for All Gala, with proceeds benefiting charity.”
