BMW Group Classic’s Digital Archives: Explore a Comprehensive Historical Catalogue
BMW Group Classic has launched digital historical model overviews that are accessible to the public. This enhancement of the recently updated BMW Group Online Archive includes an extensive historical online product catalogue for the BMW, Mini, and BMW Motorrad brands.
The historical model overviews for the Mini and BMW Motorrad brands were initially made available to the public in 2021. Now, the BMW brand's historical model overview is also accessible online.
This research tool, featuring 424 BMW models, is available for media professionals, enthusiasts, and fans at BMW Group Classic. The BMW product range spans all series vehicles from the BMW 3/15 hp model to the BMW 3 Series (E46), including the BMW Z4 (E85/E86), covering a total period of 80 years from 1928 to 2008. Historical model overviews of the Mini and BMW Motorrad brands complement the online research offerings.
The site overviews all classic vehicles across all brand divisions, with concise and informative texts about model series, body variants, and engines.
These overviews are enhanced with current images from the BMW Group Classic vehicle collection and the historic BMW media archive. For this purpose, 614 data sets and 524 images were processed. The design focuses on the tool's long-term viability, allowing future expansions to include upcoming vehicle generations.
Those interested in delving deeper into BMW Group cars and other aspects of the Company's corporate history can explore additional links to the BMW Group Classic online archive, which was revised in 2024. The archive also contains publications such as brochures, workshop literature, onboard literature, and specialist books.
Katrin Gfrörer, Head of BMW Group Archives and Historic Vehicle Collection, stated, “By providing our complete historical model overviews online, we address a long-standing high demand for historical product information and enhance customer satisfaction with another digital tool. Furthermore, most of the databases in our online archive are publicly available on the BMW Group Archive website for information and research purposes. These initiatives significantly highlight BMW Group Classic's digitisation strategy."
