Pascal Wehrlein to Make Le Mans Debut with Porsche Penske Motorsport in 2025
Pascal Wehrlein will debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2025, driving the Porsche 963 for Porsche Penske Motorsport. Already well-acquainted with the hybrid prototype from test sessions and his participation in the 24 Hours of Daytona, the reigning Formula E World Champion strengthens Porsche’s lineup for the legendary endurance race.
In January, Wehrlein supported the customer team JDC-Miller MotorSports at Daytona. This June, he will share driving duties at Le Mans with experienced Porsche factory drivers Felipe Nasr and Nick Tandy. Both have proven their endurance racing pedigree, having recently triumphed in the Daytona and Sebring classics as full-time IMSA competitors. Nasr, a three-time IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Champion, returns for his sixth Le Mans start, while Tandy—an overall Le Mans winner with Porsche in 2015—prepares for his 13th appearance.
“The Porsche driver roster is truly world-class, and it’s only logical to draw on our top talent from the Formula E programme,” says Thomas Laudenbach, Vice President of Porsche Motorsport. “Pascal Wehrlein has thoroughly impressed us with his pace in testing and his performance at Daytona. As the reigning Formula E World Champion, he has fully earned this opportunity to race the Porsche 963 at Le Mans.”
Wehrlein is excited to embrace the challenge of endurance racing’s biggest stage. “Driving for Porsche Penske Motorsport at Le Mans is a dream come true,” he says. “Unlike Formula E, I must adapt to shared elements like seating position, car setup, and race strategy. It’s a big shift, but I’m eager to learn, contribute to the team, and add new achievements to my Formula E title. Porsche’s motorsport legacy is iconic, and I’m incredibly grateful for this opportunity.”
While Wehrlein readies himself for his Le Mans debut, fellow Formula E driver António Félix da Costa returns for his seventh start at the Circuit de la Sarthe. The Portuguese racer previously won the LMP2 class in 2022 and competed in a customer Porsche 963 in 2023. “I’m thrilled to be back at Le Mans after a year away,” says Félix da Costa. “Winning LMP2 in 2022 was a career highlight, and that’s my target again this year. I’m ready to fight alongside my teammates in June.”
