Porsche Taycan GTS Sets New Guinness World Record for Longest Ice Drift

On the afternoon of January 14, 2025, Porsche Experience instructor Jens Richter embarked on a record-breaking drive under challenging conditions. Jens Richter explained, "The ice track deteriorated quickly under the extreme stress of the drifting Taycan, forcing us to halt the initial attempt after just 11 kilometres."

The team adapted for the second attempt by fitting shorter spikes, taking advantage of the cooler temperatures after dusk. This change proved pivotal as Jens Richter expertly maintained a controlled drift in the standard Taycan GTS across 132 laps, covering a remarkable distance of 17.503 kilometres. This feat established a new Guinness World Record for the longest uninterrupted electric car drift on ice, surpassing the previous mark by nearly 3 kilometres. Jens Richter remarked, "The Taycan has reaffirmed its exceptional handling on ice, securing a new GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title, demonstrating its capability in all-wheel drive under extreme conditions."

The record attempt occurred at the Porsche Arctic Center in Levi, Finland, supervised by official Guinness World Records adjudicator Carl Saville. The team prepared a 59-meter diameter drift circle and equipped the Taycan GTS with standard Michelin tyres featuring one-millimetre spikes. The vehicle also boasted a professional GPS device to accurately measure the route and capture detailed data on the driver's input and the vehicle's dynamic forces.

After the record-breaking drive, Carl Saville awarded the certificate to Jens Richter and Christian Lehwald, Managing Director at the Porsche Arctic Center. Christian Lehwald shared, "Our approach to experiential marketing drives us to explore unique challenges, and the exceptional conditions at the Porsche Arctic Center are perfect for ice drifting. The power and capabilities of the Taycan GTS made us confident in breaking this world record."

This latest achievement adds to the Taycan's impressive record collection, including a 2023 GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title for the highest altitude change by an electric car achieved by the Taycan Cross Turismo and the record for the fastest speed in an enclosed building set by Leh Keen in 2021. In 2020, Dennis Retera also set a record for the longest drift at the Porsche Experience Center Hockenheimring.
