Revolutionising Mining Efficiency: How PAMA and McLaren Applied Spearhead Decarbonisation for a Sustainable Future
As the world strives towards a sustainable future, pivotal sectors like transport, construction, and manufacturing must transform. This necessitates substantial amounts of raw materials. Mining emerges as a crucial player in securing these resources, from lithium and cobalt for electric vehicle batteries to bauxite and cadmium for solar panels. To spearhead sustainability efforts, the mining industry must swiftly decarbonise.
In this pursuit, PT Pamapersada Nusantara (PAMA), a leading mining contractor in Indonesia, has partnered with McLaren Applied, a cutting-edge British technology and engineering company, to expedite decarbonisation.
Fuel constitutes a significant portion of a mine's operational expenses, impacting pollution, productivity, and costs. Navigating steep terrain with PAMA's haul trucks demands constant analysis amid dynamic variables like payload, weather, and terrain.
While fully electrified or hydrogen-powered mining trucks remain on the horizon, real-time fuel analytics present a cost-effective means to enhance efficiency and accelerate decarbonisation.
Traditional fuel analytics need to provide timely insights. McLaren Applied's Fuel Analytics Service, leveraging Formula 1-derived technology, collects live data from PAMA's fleet and employs AI algorithms to optimise real-time fuel efficiency.
This service provides live feedback to drivers, improving efficiency and reducing fuel consumption. Regular updates and personalised recommendations further enhance performance, leading to significant fuel savings.
McLaren Applied's Fuel Analytics Service has already demonstrated fuel savings of up to 4.5% compared to non-users. The top 25% of drivers using the service achieved up to a 6.5% reduction in fuel and carbon emissions, coupled with a 5.6% improvement in cycle time.
Moreover, smoother driving inputs reduce maintenance costs and enhance operational outcomes. After successfully implementing the service at the first site, PAMA plans to expand it.
Pak Hendra Hutahean, Vice President Director at PAMA, expressed satisfaction with the immediate impact of McLaren Applied's Fuel Analytics Service and anticipates further deployment across additional sites.
