Unveiling the 2025 Mustang GTD Spirit of America: The Epitome of American Engineering Excellence
In 1962, a dedicated team embarked on transforming a compact sedan into the sporty Mustang, swiftly outperforming Europe’s finest in its first competition. This Mustang was the first American car to complete a lap of Germany’s legendary Nürburgring in under seven minutes. Today, Ford proudly presents the Mustang GTD Spirit of America, honouring these achievements and more.
Since 1965, the Mustang has been the quintessence of American motoring, from its robust V8 engine to the iconic galloping horse logo against the red, white, and blue insignia. The Mustang GTD Spirit of America extends beyond mere performance; it celebrates the American ethos of innovation and courage in surmounting obstacles.
Craig Breedlove, a structural engineering technician in the aerospace sector, embodied this ethos when he acquired a £500 jet engine from a Korean War-era fighter plane and shattered the 500- and 600-mile-per-hour land speed barriers.
These groundbreaking records, predominantly held by European aristocrats, spurred on American designers, engineers, and innovators for decades, including those involved in the Mustang GTD programme.
Jim Owens, Mustang GTD Brand Manager, states, “The Mustang GTD represents the pinnacle of Mustang performance. The Spirit of America edition honours the audacity behind this performance, made possible by trailblazers like Craig Breedlove, who boldly challenged the racing giants in a uniquely American fashion.”
Ford Design has envisioned the Mustang GTD Spirit of America in Performance White with twin racing stripes in Race Red and Lightning Blue, reminiscent of the iconic Mustang Tribar introduced in 1964. These stripes extend across the vehicle’s body, echoing Breedlove's racing attire during his historic speed achievements.
The car showcases exposed carbon fibre in its aerodynamic elements, such as the front splitter and rear diffuser. It has a spoiler with Race Red end plates and a distinct “MUSTANG” wordmark.
Options for owners include Race Red or exposed carbon-fibre mirror caps with standard Race Red callipers. The Mustang GTD Performance Package comes as standard.
Internally, the Mustang GTD Spirit of America features unique leather-trimmed seats with Dinamica inserts, highlighted by a Race-Red gradient stripe and Re-Entry White exterior accents. Victory Blue stitching subtly contrasts the cabin, enhancing the 3D-printed titanium paddle shifters, shift ring, and dashboard badge.
The all-new 2025 Mustang GTD Spirit of America not only redefines performance standards with its 815 horsepower, 664 pound-feet of torque, and a maximum speed of 202 miles per hour but also epitomises the zenith of Mustang engineering and the pinnacle of American automotive prowess.
