Volkswagen Launches Groundbreaking All-Electric Cars for Europe: Affordable E-Mobility Hits the Market by 2027
The Volkswagen Group's Board of Management has taken a decisive step to expand the availability of all-electric entry-level mobility. Under the leadership of the Brand Group Core, Volkswagen is set to introduce affordable electric vehicles in Europe, aimed at the European market, with a world premiere planned for 2027. Volkswagen is actively developing compact electric cars, priced around 20,000 euros, to make e-mobility accessible to everyone and continue driving entry-level e-mobility solutions.
Oliver Blume, CEO of Volkswagen Group, affirms, "For generations, the Volkswagen Group's renowned brands have been synonymous with affordable mobility, often associated with people's first cars. We are proud to carry this legacy of social responsibility forward with our new project focused on entry-level electric mobility, designed and crafted in Europe for Europe. This initiative underscores our commitment to entry-level e-mobility and our dedication to maintaining Europe as a leading industrial hub, supporting European industrial policy, and serving the interests of European consumers."
Thomas Schäfer, CEO of the Volkswagen brand and head of the Brand Group Core, underscores, "The future of mobility is electric. We need attractive vehicles to popularise electromobility, particularly in the entry-level segment. Our commitment is unwavering: electromobility for all. This vision is now taking shape in the Brand Group Core. Despite the challenges of rising costs for energy, materials, and raw materials, our vehicles will set new benchmarks in the entry-level segment through superior technology, design, quality, and customer experience. Succeeding in this sector necessitates political support and competitive conditions."
Volkswagen is committed to a high degree of localisation in Europe, which supports Europe as an industrial base and reduces long transport distances for components, thereby decreasing CO2 emissions.
This project marks a significant advance in making electromobility prevalent across Europe. Intense development is underway for the “Electric Urban Car Family,” with the Brand Group Core planning to unveil electric cars under 25,000 euros by late 2025. This lineup includes two new compact cars—one from VW and another from CUPRA—and two small SUVs, one from Škoda and another from VW, all to be manufactured in Spain. With its initiative for all-electric entry-level mobility at 20,000 euros, the Volkswagen Group is consistently advancing to the next phase.
