Maserati GT2 Stradale Hits the Road: Unleashing Performance with Heritage

The Maserati GT2 Stradale, following its global premiere on 16 August at “The Quail” during Monterey Car Week in California, is now navigating the roads and set to enter the market, beginning in Europe this April.

The launch of the street-legal version of the GT2, which marked the return of the House of the Trident to track racing in closed-wheel championships, was celebrated in Andalusia. Here, a driving event for major stakeholders and global customers was held. Participants had the chance to test the vehicle's prowess both on out-of-town roads and on the racetrack, showcasing the dual nature of this super sports car: its racing DNA and the comfort synonymous with the House of the Trident.

Starting from the picturesque city of Marbella, the test drive followed the scenic twists of the Parque Nacional Sierra de las Nieves, culminating at the private Ascari circuit near Ronda, the gem of Andalusia. The circuit’s 5,425 metres, named after the Italian Formula 1 champion and former Maserati driver, underscore the brand’s storied legacy.

Maserati is renowned for its rich and victorious sporting history. The inception of the MC20 project, a flagship vehicle heralding a new era for the House of the Trident, coincided with the brand’s renewed commitment to track racing. This vision and the brand’s inherent racing DNA inspired the creation of the Maserati GT2, propelling the Modena-based manufacturer to victory in the Fanatec GT2 European Series championship.

The GT2 category perfectly aligns with Maserati's sporting heritage. It meets the aspirations of racing enthusiasts—private teams and amateur drivers—through a project integral to the brand’s motorsport strategy of achieving podium finishes.

The GT2 Stradale is a track-based vehicle approved for road use, offering a blend of extreme, refined racing performance and the comfort of uncompromising road driving. This model merges the best features of the MC20 and GT2, boasting a top speed of 324 km/h, a power increase in the remarkable V6 Nettuno engine to 640 CV (471 kW), 10 CV more than the MC20, and accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.8 seconds, making it the most agile rear-wheel drive (RWD) in its class.

For this exclusive driving experience, the GT2 Stradale showcased various liveries as part of the Fuoriserie customisation programme. One of the elegant pit lanes at the Ascari circuits showcased customisation options, while another highlighted the legacy of the Maserati Corse by displaying the GT2 predecessor.

Santo Ficili, CEO of Maserati, remarked: “From the road to the track and back: transitioning from the racing GT2 to its road version was a seamless progression, epitomising our brand’s performance ethos. With the road debut of our pinnacle super sports car, we have crafted an ideal platform for its customers, which has also received media acclaim. The GT2 Stradale, entirely produced in Modena, represents a fusion of Maserati’s dual legacies of elegance and racing, embodying the passion, commitment, and pride of all at the House of the Trident.”

Production commenced last December at the historic Viale Ciro Menotti plant in Modena. The Maserati GT2 Stradale is available in a limited edition of just 914 units, as indicated by the badge on the central tunnel, with the inscription “1 of 914” nodding to Maserati’s founding year, 1914.
