Ariel Launches the Groundbreaking Nomad 2: Redefining Off-Road Performance
Ariel Motor Company, the UK-based specialist in ultra-lightweight road, track, and off-road vehicles, has unveiled the all-new Ariel Nomad 2, the ultimate sportscar for any terrain.
Dubbed 'Nomad 2', this second-generation vehicle carries the legacy of the Atom sports car into its fourth generation, embodying Ariel’s commitment to SERIOUS FUN. This ethos reflects the company's design philosophy where functionality leads.
Often referred to as the Atom’s ‘Mucky Brother’, the Nomad showcases its off-road prowess with exposed outboard suspension, long-travel dampers, robust body panels, a raised air intake, and a washable interior.
The Nomad 2 stands out as a recognisable advancement over its predecessor. It introduces a ground-up redesign with only three parts carried over from the original. This new model incorporates customer feedback and significant Ariel R&D, pushing the boundaries of what a sportscar can do.
Henry Siebert-Saunders, Ariel's Managing Director, stated, “The all-new Nomad 2 encapsulates 25 years of automotive expertise, a decade of Nomad insights, and the freshest learnings from Atom 4. This amalgamation ensures the Nomad 2 is faster and more capable than ever, truly defining the essence of go-anywhere speed.”
The in-house team at Ariel has engineered the Nomad 2 with a completely new chassis, suspension, steering, brakes, and electronics. The vehicle features aerodynamically enhanced bodywork, modern seating, updated instrumentation, and design enhancements.
With a design brief focused on enhancing the car’s performance, the Nomad 2 represents a significant evolution for the model and Ariel as a company.
In developing the Nomad 2, Ariel has enhanced the accessibility of the car's performance, enabling drivers to exploit its capabilities confidently. The new model comes with selectable driver aids such as a three-stage engine map controller, driver-adjustable launch and traction control, and an adjustable ABS that functions seamlessly on and off-road. These adjustments can be made on the move, giving drivers complete control.
Ariel has subjected the Nomad 2 to its most rigorous testing regime, ensuring its performance in extreme conditions, from racetracks to rally stages and in diverse weather scenarios, including heat, rain, and snow.
Simon Saunders, Director of Ariel, commented, “Achieving compliant handling in lightweight cars on roads is an art. Elevating that to endure repeated high-speed off-road jumps is an engineering marvel. The Nomad 2 impressively handles a variety of surfaces from mud to ice, showcasing our commitment to pushing limits.”
“The Nomad 2 is a marvel even to us,” Saunders added. “It combines road car refinement, rally car performance, and beach buggy fun. It’s equally at home on a shopping trip on a WRC rally stage. But above all, it guarantees a smile on every journey.”
Every Nomad 2 is custom-built to order by a dedicated technician who sees the car through from chassis to final test drive, adding a personal touch with their nameplate. With over 100 customisable options, Ariel ensures each Nomad 2 is as unique as its owner.
Production of the Nomad 2 is set to start at the Ariel factory near Crewkerne in Somerset, continuing alongside the Ariel Atom 4, Atom 4R, and Dash e-bike.
