Automobili Pininfarina Unveils Battista Targamerica: The World's First Custom-Built Electric Hypercar at Monterey Car Week

Automobili Pininfarina has unveiled the unique Battista Targamerica, the world’s first coach-built electric hypercar delivered to a client.

Battista Targamerica will premiere at The Quail, A Motorsport Gathering, during this month’s Monterey Car Week, an ideal showcase for such an exclusive automotive masterpiece. As the first client-commissioned coach-built car from Automobili Pininfarina, it perfectly exemplifies the brand’s philosophy of ‘Dream Cars, Made Real.’

A famed car collector and existing Battista owner commissioned the vehicle. The design team collaborated closely with the client to inspire and realise a comprehensive suite of personalisations that distinguish it as a singular design and technical marvel.

Artisans at the Cambiano atelier, in partnership with Pininfarina SpA, hand-crafted the car, embodying the owner’s personality through their individuality, history, tastes, interests, and unique life story. Following the event, the vehicle will occupy a place of honour within one of the world’s most esteemed private collections of rare, classic, and contemporary performance car icons.

Battista Targamerica features an eye-catching silver and blue colour scheme and benefits from meticulous body re-engineering to enhance its roofless profile, offering a distinct open-top driving experience. It also integrates elements of Automobili Pininfarina’s award-winning PURA design philosophy, representing a futuristic vision of timeless luxury. Like all Battista vehicles, it is a unique, hand-crafted masterpiece that reflects the client’s personality.

Paolo Dellachà, Chief Executive Officer at Automobili Pininfarina, stated, “This marks a seminal moment as we present our first coach-built one-off vehicle to a client. Battista Targamerica, unlike any vehicle before it, showcases the limitless potential our highly skilled team can design and engineer. Our world-class artisans have crafted something exceptional – the first electric open-top hypercar tailored precisely to a client’s specifications.”

Several features of Battista Targamerica draw inspiration from one of the most iconic one-off cars designed by Pininfarina – the 1986 Ferrari Testarossa Spider, crafted for Gianni Agnelli to commemorate his 20 years as Chairman of Fiat. The vehicle is a study in simplicity and elegance, akin to Battista Targamerica. Its stunning silver finish, enhanced with subtle blue and black accents, pays tribute to the Testarossa Spider, as do the horizontal feature lines on the rear luggage opening of Battista Targamerica.

The car was commissioned during the 2023 Monterey Car Week. Its creation from concept to completion took precisely one year, highlighting the meticulous diligence of the Cambiano artisans. The vehicle incorporates several personal elements referencing the client’s life and achievements.

A distinctive feature is its bespoke cigar holder and humidor, integrated into the cabin between the two seats. This custom aluminium and glass case embodies the sophisticated merger of luxury with technology, reflecting the vehicle’s DNA and the owner’s lifestyle as a statement of its uniquely personalised nature.

In a display of meticulous attention to detail, the space, which can accommodate up to three cigars, is back-lit and illuminated to correspond with the colours of the five driving modes: Calma, Pura, Energica, Furiosa, and Carattere, which are Green, Iconica Blu, Orange, Red, and Yellow, respectively.

The car’s name, Battista Targamerica, was developed with the client and the design team. It references its roofless body style and the country where it will reside.

Dave Amantea, Chief Design Officer at Automobili Pininfarina, remarked, “The Battista Targamerica stands at the forefront of design. It is an exceptional vehicle that leads to performance and luxury. We were challenged to create a vehicle that uniquely represents the personality of its owner, and our team has exceeded expectations. The result is our first coach-built one-off vehicle, a Targa that carries the Automobili Pininfarina badge. Battista Targamerica will remain unparalleled and irreplaceable.”

In line with its exclusivity while retaining signature Automobili Pininfarina elements, the exterior boasts a pure, striking silver Argento Liquido Gloss finish, detailed with Iconica Blu Gloss accents along the bodyside and aero wings in front of the rear wheels. The rear underwing is hand-finished by an Automobili Pininfarina artisan, who carefully paints Iconica Blu pinstripes across the entire wing width as a testament to the vehicle’s intricate craftsmanship.

The exterior design is completed with unique, ceramic-polished five-spoke alloy rims with contrasting black anodised aluminium centre caps. The brushed and anodised jewellery pack complements the design, featuring bespoke one-off door plates.

Battista Targamerica is upholstered in soft tan leather with a contrasting black steering wheel and dashboard. The headrests are custom-designed, featuring an embossed Automobili Pininfarina ‘F’ logo, distinctive décor, and design details tailored to the owner.

A bespoke tailored luggage set, finished in the same tan leather as the upholstery and embossed with a Battista Targamerica silhouette, reflects the vehicle’s extensive personalisation and complements the owner’s dynamic lifestyle. It demonstrates the depth of customisation inherent in every Automobili Pininfarina vehicle.

Battista Targamerica shares the title of Italy’s fastest road-legal car with the Automobili Pininfarina Battista. This electrified marvel offers an unmatched open-top driving experience, powered by four independent electric motors and a 120kWh lithium-ion battery that delivers 1,900hp and 2,340Nm of torque. Consequently, Battista Targamerica can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in less than two seconds, reaching a top speed of over 300km/h.

Andrea Crespi, Chief Technical Officer at Automobili Pininfarina, commented, “Battista Targamerica is the culmination of an unparalleled collaboration between our in-house design and engineering teams and the client. This vehicle combines superior on-road performance and stability with a unique design. This commission challenged us to deliver Battista-level performance without the structural support of a hard-body roof, pushing the team to devise a creative, one-of-a-kind solution to meet our client’s requirements.”

The creation of Battista Targamerica drew on decades of experience from the Automobili Pininfarina team based in Cambiano, Italy. It represents a fusion of extensive bespoke design and material knowledge alongside comprehensive manufacturing and engineering expertise, leveraging the complete skill sets of Automobili Pininfarina’s over 100-strong team, which spans over 20 nationalities. Collectively, it signifies a milestone for Automobili Pininfarina’s commitment to unique coach-built vehicles and the art form of luxury cars.

Automobili Pininfarina stands out as the premier provider of the pure Italian luxury experience, with its bespoke curated vehicles tailored to the exact preferences of individual clients. Each car is a unique, hand-crafted masterpiece and a reflection of the client’s personality, inspired by the craftsmanship of Automobili Pininfarina’s artisans.
