BMW M Motorsport Brings the Iconic BMW M3 GTR to Life

BMW M Motorsport has expertly crafted a real-life version of the legendary BMW M3 GTR from Need for Speed™: Most Wanted. This momentous creation will be displayed at BMW Welt in Munich, celebrating three decades of the Need for Speed™ series, a cornerstone of racing game culture, presented by EA Games.

Since their inception in the 1980s, racing games have evolved from pixelated screens to a global phenomenon, captivating petrolheads and action enthusiasts alike. Need for Speed™ has stood out since its first release in 1994. This year, EA Games is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the series, and BMW M is joining the festivities.

Need for Speed™: Most Wanted, released in 2005, remains one of the most memorable titles, thanks partly to the iconic BMW M3 GTR driven by antagonist Clarence Callahan, also known as ‘Razor’. The car's striking silver-blue livery, powerful sound, and significant role in the game have made it a lasting symbol in gaming and pop culture. This has inspired BMW M to construct a tribute model crafted from carbon and aluminium and packed with power.

The original BMW M3 GTR from 2001, recreated with meticulous attention to detail, mirrors the livery seen in Need for Speed™. Based on the BMW M3 E46, this prototype was initially developed for the American Le Mans Series (ALMS). It quickly surpassed expectations, dominating the series by winning seven out of ten races, securing the drivers' championship for Jörg Müller, and helping BMW M Motorsport clinch the team and manufacturers' titles in 2001.

As Need for Speed™: Most Wanted nears its 20th anniversary, EA Games has introduced Need for Speed™ Unbound Vol. 9: Prepare for Lockdown, bringing back the celebrated BMW M3 GTR. This latest game also features the BMW S 1000 RR 2019, marking the first motorcycle in the Need for Speed™ series.

For those eager to see the BMW M3 GTR from Need for Speed™: Most Wanted in person, the car will be showcased at BMW Welt in Munich starting 27 November 2024.
