Breaking Records: Hennessey Venom F5 Revolution Smashes COTA Lap Time!

Hennessey Special Vehicles, the renowned hypercar manufacturer based in Texas, has achieved a groundbreaking feat by setting a new road car lap record at the Circuit of The Americas (COTA). The blistering 2:10.90 lap of the 3.41-mile racetrack, accomplished by the track-focused Hennessey Venom F5 Revolution, breaks the previous COTA road car lap record* by 0.43 seconds, making it the fastest road-going hypercar ever around the Texan circuit.

During the record-breaking run on March 11, the Hennessey Venom F5 Revolution reached exceptional speeds, hitting 193.10 mph on the 1,016-meter-long back straight. This achievement surpasses the previous record held by a Czinger C21 and outpaces the former McLaren P1 record by almost seven seconds.

From the outset, Hennessey aimed to create 'the Decathlete of Hypercars.' The 1,817 bhp twin-turbocharged 6.6-litre V8 hypercar aimed to surpass 300 mph and excel as a competent track car. Driven by the manufacturer's in-house test driver, David Donohue, the Venom F5 showcased its capabilities, achieving up to +1.59 G in corners and -1.61 G under braking.

The record-setting performance was made possible by combining Donohue's racing expertise and the car's lightweight construction. The hypercar aggressively tackled the track's undulating terrain and technical corners, propelled by the immense power of Hennessey's 'Fury' engine.

John Hennessey, company founder and CEO, expressed his pride in the team's achievement, highlighting the journey of pushing the American hypercar to its limits. The engineering of the track-focused Revolution variant of the Venom F5 was led by Hennessey's VP of Engineering, Brian Jones, optimising the car's setup to tackle the full Grand Prix Circuit.

Compared to its Coupe sibling, the Revolution variant features enhanced aerodynamics and suspension, contributing to its exceptional performance. David Donohue, Hennessey Hypercar Test Driver, praised the Venom F5 Revolution for its phenomenal power and handling, emphasising its unmatched driving experience.

Independent third-party timing by RACELOGIC verified the record-setting lap, further supported by unbroken video footage. The Venom F5 Revolution ran on street-legal tyres, regular Shell pump ethanol, and standard Pennzoil fluids, underlining its accessibility and reliability.

Shell Lubricants Americas expressed their pride in supporting Hennessey's pursuit of hypercar speed and performance, highlighting the role of Pennzoil Platinum in Venom F5's achievement.

Hennessey's headquarters in Sealy, Texas, oversees the design, specification, and assembly of each Venom F5. A limited number of build slots are available for Roadster and Revolution variants.

With the track-based credentials established, Hennessey aims to surpass the +300 mph V-max, building on the Venom F5's achievements. Potential buyers can apply to own a Venom F5 Revolution or Roadster through Hennessey's website or network of retailers.
