Discover the Alpine A390_β: The Revolutionary Electric Sport Fastback
Introducing the Alpine A390_β, the inaugural 100% electric sport fastback, adding a fresh dimension to the brand's sporting heritage. This model is a precursor to the second of three Dream Garage models, envisaged by Alpine to captivate all driving enthusiasts.
Following the A290 and preceding the forthcoming electric A110, the A390_β ushers in the second phase of Alpine's Dream Garage project, highlighting the trio of sports cars that signify the brand's shift to electric power.
A390_β adheres to Alpine's traditional naming scheme, combining an 'A' with three digits. The '3' indicates the vehicle's size, while the '90' indicates its versatility as a daily driver. The Greek letter 'β' signifies an intermediary development stage before the official launch.
The A390_β provides a sneak peek at the upcoming road car. It is engineered for daily commutes but capable of transforming into a racing powerhouse reminiscent of the iconic A110 for a more exhilarating drive. Alpine describes it as a genuine sports car with a sophisticated façade, like a racing car clothed in a tailor-made suit.
Drawing inspiration from the Alpine mountain ranges, the A390_β, like the Alpenglow concept car displayed at the 2022 Paris Motor Show, incorporates elements such as rock, minerals, and snow into its design and material selection, imbuing it with a strong character.
Capitalising on its heritage and racing DNA, Alpine delivers a vehicle epitomising French craftsmanship, perfectly merging audacity with innovation. At a time when eco-friendly transport is crucial in the automotive industry, the Alpine A390_β show car represents more than just a vision—it exemplifies the brand's commitment to premium, thrilling, and sustainable sports vehicles.
"A390_β previews the future Alpine sport fastback, designed to offer the A110's sportiness with five seats. This show car symbolises the blend of racing spirit and refinement, promising an outstanding performance and driving experience from 2025 onwards in our France-made production vehicle," stated Philippe Krief, CEO of Alpine.
The A390_β's silhouette is dynamic and fluid, presenting a proper sculptural form inspired by a water droplet. This natural shape achieves an optimal balance between functionality and aerodynamics. The car's sides also carry Alpine's signature line, lending a sense of motion even when stationary.
Its intense, multifaceted blue exterior accentuates the show car's sharp contours. The vibrant paint pulsates with movement, shifting between bright, reflective blues and deeper tones, thus enhancing the vehicle's sculpted lines.
The A390_β stands out with its distinctive lighting signature that resonates with Alpenglow. Featuring a cluster of illuminated triangles dubbed “Cosmic Dust” beneath the lighting strips at both ends, it mimics a comet piercing through the sky. The slender light bars at the front and rear appear to slice through the air, conveying a sense of lightness.
Aerodynamically designed, the A390_β integrates visible elements such as a “flying bridge” at the front to enhance airflow. The micro-perforated grille optimises air intake, while the expansive side scoops generate an air curtain to boost airflow.
The conceptually styled rear interprets the “Light Follows Function" philosophy, with lighting that underscores the show car's aerodynamic features. A shark fin, reminiscent of Alpine's Le Mans racers, denotes fluidity and stability.
In line with the rear diffuser, the illuminated light strip can extend or retract by 80 mm, allowing the A390_β to switch from a 'short-tail' to a 'long-tail' design, reducing aerodynamic drag and enhancing the vehicle's efficiency.
The wheels of the A390_β show car, inspired by the crystalline structure of snowflakes, combine strength and lightness. The 22-inch front and 23-inch rear wheels are adorned with a cabochon at the centre, lit by a bluish halo that evokes the appearance of jewellery. The transparent central flange gives the impression of a thin ice layer, showcasing the Active Torque Vectoring function.
With an exterior design that is 85% identical to the forthcoming production model, the A390_β encapsulates a design philosophy where form complements function, highlighting the technical and aerodynamic elements that define its sporty character.
It embodies a sports fastback silhouette, merging sleekness and sportiness with spaciousness. This design, featuring a sweeping rear window, contributes significantly to the vehicle's aerodynamic prowess.
Thus, the A390_β combines lightness and dynamism and primarily extends an invitation to experience communal sportiness.
