Discover the New Golf R and Golf R Estate: Volkswagen's Fastest Models Unveiled!

Volkswagen unveils the Golf R and Golf R Estate in a global debut, showcasing the top models in the Golf range. These cars feature enhanced driving dynamics, exclusive standard equipment, and a power output of 245 kW (333 PS). Their output surpasses their predecessors by 10 kW (13 PS). With the optional R-Performance package, their top speed of 250 km/h can be increased to 270 km/h, positioning these models as the fastest Volkswagen production cars globally, alongside the Arteon R Shooting Brake. Pre-sales in Germany kick off on 3 July, with the Golf R priced at €53,795 and the Golf R Estate at €55,065. The Golf R Black Edition, an exclusive all-black model, starts at €58,440, with UK pricing and details to follow.

The latest R models are based on the eighth-generation Golf, which recently underwent a significant update. Their dynamism shines through in the redesigned front end, which features LED Plus headlights, an illuminated VW badge, and air curtains in the bumper, complemented by new LED tail light clusters. Optional 19-inch “Warmenau” forged wheels offer a sleek design, are lightweight at eight kilograms each, and have enhanced brake cooling, which is ideal for racetrack driving.

Volkswagen has also overhauled the infotainment system with improved hardware and software, boasting the most prominent display to date (32.8 cm/10.9 inches). Enhancements include more explicit graphics, a refreshed menu on the touch display, and newly developed illuminated touch sliders for climate and volume control. The voice assistant IDA leverages AI-based software "ChatGPT" for responsive interaction. The steering wheel's touch capabilities have been refined, and the models come standard with the Digital Cockpit Pro, which features an exclusive Sport Skin and R-View.

The interior of the Golf R models is ergonomically designed with a focus on the driver and features "R" style refinement. The driver and front passenger sports seats include integrated head restraints and optional black nappa leather with carbon-look elements. The new models also offer optional real carbon interior applications, emphasising the high-quality, exclusive design.

These models boast a robust 2.0-litre turbocharged engine linked to a seven-speed DSG and 4MOTION all-wheel drive with R-Performance Torque Vectoring, enhancing stability and agility. With the R-Performance package, the torque reaches 420 Nm, and the top speed of 250 km/h can extend to 270 km/h.

This package also introduces two additional driving modes, Drift and Special, the latter tailored for the Nürburgring Nordschleife. It includes a larger roof spoiler for increased downforce, a GPS lap timer, and a G-meter in the Digital Cockpit Pro.

Adaptive chassis control (DCC), standard in Germany, reacts dynamically to driving conditions, optimising comfort and handling. The DCC and Vehicle Dynamics Manager perfectly balance daily use and sportiness. The Golf R Estate offers extensive flexibility with up to 1,642 litres of luggage space.

The exclusive launch model features a sophisticated dark theme with darker VW badges, black R brake callipers, black 19-inch Estoril wheels, and black tailpipe trims. Standard darkened IQ. LIGHT LED matrix headlights and the R-Performance package highlight its unique offerings.
