McLaren Ignites the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed with Heritage-Inspired Supercars
McLaren celebrates over six decades of motorsport success at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed, showcasing how its racing heritage continues to inspire its supercars. The event will feature the McLaren Senna adorned in the Senna Sempre livery at McLaren House, honouring Ayrton Senna's legacy and showcasing the exquisite craftsmanship of McLaren Special Operations (MSO).
This year marks the 30th anniversary of Ayrton Senna’s death, who secured three Formula 1 World Championships with McLaren. Celebrations include the unveiling of the McLaren Senna with Senna Sempre livery at the Monaco Grand Prix alongside the uniquely liveried MCL38, driven by Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri. Both cars, highlighting McLaren's rich history and innovation, will also be displayed at Goodwood, offering fans a rare glimpse of this historic duo.
The McLaren Senna with Senna Sempre livery results from months of dedicated effort by MSO's skilled designers and paint technicians. This team, known for bespoke customer commissions and projects like the 750S with 3-7-59 Theme, has created a tribute that captures Ayrton's vibrant personality and racing success through innovative paint techniques and vibrant colours.
Additionally, a stunning collection of McLaren cars will grace McLaren House and participate in the iconic Goodwood hillclimb. Esteemed drivers will commemorate McLaren’s illustrious Formula 1 history by taking to the wheel and speaking at the event.
Bruno Senna, Ayrton’s nephew and a former Formula 1 driver, will pilot the McLaren MP4/6—the 1991 championship-winning car powered by a V12 engine and the last to use a manual gearbox. Meanwhile, double Formula 1 world champion Mika Häkkinen will showcase the Solus GT, a limited-edition model reflecting the McLaren MP4/13 he drove in 1998, during a Saturday hillclimb run.
Following its Timed Shootout victory in 2023, the Solus GT will return to Goodwood, where McLaren Factory Driver Marvin Kirchhöfer will aim to surpass last year's record.
The festival also celebrates the 50th anniversary of McLaren’s first Formula 1 World Championship wins in 1974 with Emerson Fittipaldi and the McLaren M23. Continuing these celebrations, the 1974 Indy 500-winning M16C/D will also be featured, paying tribute to Johnny Rutherford’s significant victory.
McLaren’s first-ever High-Performance Hybrid convertible supercar, the Artura Spider, will make its UK dynamic debut alongside the 750S, McLaren’s lightest and most powerful series production supercar, the new McLaren GTS, and Ultimate Series vehicles including the McLaren Senna and McLaren P1.
“This year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed will mark another milestone event for McLaren, thrilling fans and celebrating our rich racing heritage with the iconic cars and legendary drivers that have defined our brand," said Michael Leiters, CEO of McLaren Automotive.
