Revamped INEOS Automotive: Grenadier and Quartermaster Production Resumes
INEOS Automotive’s Hambach plant has resumed its entire operations. At the end of last year, a critical seat shortage caused by supplier insolvency temporarily halted the production of Grenadier and Quartermaster 4X4s. As previously announced in November, the production line restarted on schedule.
Lynn Calder, CEO of INEOS Automotive, expressed enthusiasm about the resumption, stating, "This marks an excellent beginning to what I believe will be our most successful year yet, building on the more than 40% growth we achieved in 2024."
The company takes pride in having over 20,000 Grenadiers in use worldwide. Calder added, "The pause in production coincided with rising demand from new markets like Mexico and China. It's uplifting to hear the familiar ‘toot’ of vehicles passing the quality check lines again. We have some catching up, but we are ready for the challenge."
The Hambach plant is celebrating the start of its third full year of Grenadier series production, with vehicles already being dispatched to customers. The first vehicle to roll off the line this year was a Scottish White Utility Wagon (5-seat) headed to southern France, closely followed by two units in Devil Red—a striking new colour option.
Devil Red introduces an eleventh colour option for the Grenadier Station Wagon and Quartermaster, with a contrasting white or black roof. This year also sees the introduction of the Grenadier 1924, a limited edition of 1,924 units featuring a package of premium lifestyle accessories and design elements in collaboration with Belstaff to celebrate its centenary.
Despite previous challenges, the plant has not been idle—the cessation of smart ForTwo production earlier in 2024 cleared space for future INEOS product developments.
Philippe Steyer, President of INEOS Automotive SAS, expressed gratitude for the patience customers, suppliers, and the production team showed during the difficult period. He praised the resilience of the Hambach facility, stating, "It stands as a testament to the determination and thoroughness that define INEOS, reopening its doors ready to build on the solid foundation established last year."
The INEOS Grenadier is now available in 50 countries worldwide and will expand into Mexico and China by the end of 2024.
