Unveiling the 296 Challenge: Ferrari's Latest Contender Roars onto the Scene!
Ferrari launches the 296 Challenge, set to debut in the 2024 Ferrari Challenge season at Mugello Circuit during the Finali Mondiali. This marks the ninth model introduced by Ferrari in its historic single-make championship, now in its 32nd season.
Representing a significant advancement, the 296 Challenge reflects Ferrari's commitment to elevating its single-make series. With drivers globally displaying increased quality and competitiveness, the development team implemented radical modifications, drawing upon Ferrari's extensive motorsport expertise. Unlike past models tailored for gentleman drivers, the 296 Challenge leans heavily on the racing prowess of its counterpart, the 296 GT3, appealing to drivers eyeing a future in GT racing.
Evolving the Ferrari Challenge competition model, the 296 Challenge signifies a departure from modest production-derived adjustments to substantial revisions to optimise track performance. This shift enabled the design team to craft a model that pushes performance, consistency, and repeatability boundaries during races and test sessions.
The 296 Challenge introduces a V6 engine, a departure from the V8 engines of previous series models. Notably, the hybrid powertrain is removed, reducing weight while increasing power output to 700 cvs, setting a record-specific power output for the segment. Inspired by the 296 GT3, Aerodynamic enhancements include innovative features such as the S-Duct and swan-neck rear wing layout, resulting in unprecedented downforce figures.
In terms of powertrain, the V6 engine sees enhancements to boost power output and reduce back pressure, resulting in improved performance and efficiency. Additionally, the braking system undergoes a complete overhaul, featuring the world's first adoption of CCM-R PLUS discs and the circuit-specific evolution of the ABS EVO Track, delivering remarkable braking performance and repeatability.
The 296 Challenge's aerodynamics are refined to achieve unprecedented downforce figures, enhancing both performance and drivability on the track. The car's cockpit incorporates ergonomic improvements, ensuring optimal driver comfort and control. Optional equipment includes a passenger seat, LTE antenna, and exhaust silencers.
Scheduled to debut in the 2024 Ferrari Challenge season, the 296 Challenge marks a significant milestone in Ferrari's single-make series, continuing its legacy of innovation and performance excellence.
